   5 years ago in  Employee vs. Contractor. Has everyone considered the downside of becoming an Uber employee?

  Becoming an employee will give us many rights including pay and protection.

  We can also restrict Uber from hiring too many drivers and saturating the market.

   5 years ago in  Why are Uber and Lyft drivers angry and protesting? Didn't Uber and Lyft mean for these jobs to be part-time and as a side hustle?

  We are talking about hourly wages. Other industries like waiters are protected by minimum pay, so why shouldn't drivers be?

  Remember the days when we had NO IDEA EVER when a trip would be long? Oh, those were the days. 

  Drive 20 minutes and you get a 2 mile ride.  That stung worse than driving 18 minutes and getting your ride cancelled.

   5 years ago in  The Ride-Hail Strike Got Just Enough Attention to Terrify Uber

  I enjoyed reading the article but this is a hype article on a hyped event. 

  Users had no problems getting rides on Wednesday. Airports were full of Ubers and in all the cities listed, drivers were showing up in 3 minutes.

  I even heard that there were MORE riders on the streets, because they thought they can get better surges and make more money.

  Sure. I will participate. We have flexible days and hours.  Why not? Even if it is a small blip on Uber’s radar, it still is a blip  

  It’ll be hard to resist if many drivers strike and there are surges all over the place...

   5 years ago in  What do you do if your seemingly under-age passenger (i.e. minor) refuses to show you his or her ID?

  I never even thought of the privacy thing. I suppose there are other reasons than not being 18 to not share the ID. Ha!

  Honestly, if you asked for an ID and they either lie or cannot produce proof, I feel like the liability falls back on them. Hence if anything were to happen, we'd be protected.

  No wonder they didn't want employees.  Now they get to keep all the stocks to themselves at corporate. Dividing up billions of dollars among the few in the ivory tower.

  I had to look it up.  some start-up that provides financial tools for people in gig economy. so I assume they have apps for uber drivers.  you know to manage finances.

  manage all that money we dont have.

  Gosh, so many holier than thou drivers here, claiming "they would be happy to wait." Why can't we be honest?  I absolutely hate waiting around and I know many other drivers do too.

  I get whopping $0.15 a minute and that's before Uber takes its 25% cut. (Maybe it's better in other cities.) That's like $6 an hour, lower than minimum wage.  I hear other drivers saying it's better than not having a passenger, but it sucks compared to when we are driving a passenger.

  We get paid the most while driving and the vehicle moving.  On a busy night, this kils productivity and earnings.    If I sat around all night waiting for people picking up their dates, I wouldn't be able to earn a living. 

  Please just complete the trip and order another one.  That isn't that hard, right?  Booking fee is like $2 to $3.
