Uber is Making Big Changes in California for Drivers! Is all this due to CA AB5?
I welcome these changes over the past month culminating with commission caps at 25%, showing destination, bringing the old surge …
Your analysis is spot on. In major cities it’s a cut on earnings. We did extensive research on RSG (the Rideshare Guy), came out to be a cut from 5-20% on average earnings.
It’s another pay cut. We did extensive research on RSG, if it came with a lesser cut in mileage rates, it would have been a positive. Long pickups are more palatable now, this is horrible for drivers in the big urban cities. This is only good for drivers in rural areas where average pickup is 10 miles away. The pay cut is anywhere from 5% to 20%. When was the last time U/L did something good for the driver. Stop drinking their Koolaid people!
They did but in their haste to grow rider base, they allow anyone with a valid CC. I cherry pick with the info on the ping screen. Such as pickup location, pax rating, distance to pickup. Once I accept a ride it’s rare that I cancel unless they’re super drunk or super late. My car my rules. If you show up to pick someone up and cancel, you waisted your time and gas as well as the pax.
Uber and Lyft put out total dollar amounts received in tips on their platform every year boasting of the figure. They don’t devulge the percentage of trips that the passengers tip. I drive on both platforms, X on Uber and regular Lyft, on the Uber platform, I’d say at most 2 out of 10 pax tip, on the Lyft platform it’ll be a higher number but not much more than 3 out of ten. I hear the percentage of pax tipping is higher on Suv, black and select.
Mass purchasing power cuts the cost to around 700 for Bird, Lime and others. Average ride is a lot higher than 2 dollars. $1 to unluck and 15 cents a minute. It adds up but there are a lot of costs involved such as charging, maintenance, insurance etc. Considering they only last around 40 days, it’s a horrible business model.
Yes, once you turn your app on, first it'll locate all the scooters nearby and populate them on a map. When you click on a specific scooter, it'll tell you how much juice it has. My suggestion is to sign up with all the companies servicing Austin, they may have special deals for new riders. Take advantage of it.
Check out this screenshot. This is Santa Monica CA, only on the Uber pax app, add to that Bird, Lime, Wheels and Lyft, there are more scooters than humans in a two square mile area.
Depending on the city, they last a lot less than a few months. The National average is around 40 days. I wrote an article about e-scooters for Rideguru to be published on Friday, the economics of the industry is worse than rideshare.
Good luck on that, so you ask for their papers? A couple of complaints from pax to UBER, you're gone, shoot first ask questions later. Uber is always on the pax side.
They’re supposed to have good eyesight. 😂
Not worth losing sleep on it. If it’s dies, dump it and grab another one. There are more scooters in some cities than riders. Best answer though would be pick one with full of juice, you’re not going more than a few miles on it or be riding it continuously. Keep swapping.
Ultimately, drivers are IC, they can refuse requests, it’s their private car. But once they are at pickup, there are some guidelines. As per Uber & Lyft drivers can’t discriminate for gender, race and they must give a ride to pax with support animals. That is regardless of them being allergic to the support animal such as dogs. If the ride has been started and things go sideways, the passenger can leave a comment and the driver could be deactivated. If the ride hasn’t started and the driver cancels and drives away, there isn’t much a pax can do.
More than watching, I'm talking doing it. Mile high club comes to mind. I've experienced it all as a driver in Los Angeles, even that! 😆
How about U/L only allow pax to register with a valid driver's license? It's required for the driver. I've had my share of those fake names, pass the ping to an 🐜.
Wait until self driving cars come around. I wonder what the passengers are going to do in those. 😆
