Uber is Making Big Changes in California for Drivers! Is all this due to CA AB5?
I welcome these changes over the past month culminating with commission caps at 25%, showing destination, bringing the old surge …
A couple of them will survive, it'll be duopoly like uber and Lyft.
Is that the Australian dude? Rideshare Professor? Waste of time to be honest. What’s my donation used for? If you want serious information about the rideshare industry, go to RSG.
Come back for Part II, just like rideshare, there’s no winner. Losses as far as the eye can see. But who cares about making money, top line growth at all cost.
Correction, Facebook owns Instagram not Google, they own YouTube.
Valuation is pretty much a greater fools theory. Uber hasn’t made a penny yet, in fact they’ve lost 10 billion so far. They spent VC money to subsidize rides and create 70 billion value out of thin air. Now they’re public, show me the money! It’s a house of cards but a lot of people got rich, very rich.
It’s already happening, they’re vandalized, stolen and thrown into lakes. Check out the pictures in my article, there are more of them littering the sidewalk than there are riders. It’s the wild Wild West in Los Angeles. More and more injured in emergency rooms with few fatalities already. Regulators are so far behind all these trends that until the rule of law is established, unicorns are being created by the month. Come back for Part II, you’d think they’re profitable, think again.
Go for it, just got to find some VC cash laying around. First to market isn’t important, just create a better mousetrap with more bells and whistles.
Here’s a vision, couple gets it on, driverless car takes them to a Motel 6 automatically and tells them GTFO and 1*. 😂 😂
The only ones who benefited from this so called disruption are the VC, top Uber executives and the passenger who’s in subsidized fantasyland.
Same thing Ian happening with scooters now, regulators are scrambling to write laws. I published a piece for Rideguru today, here’s the link.

However, AB5 is on its way in CA, an existential threat to Uber and Lyft, their pants are on fire, they’re fighting it tooth and nail.
Cabs have to since they're regulated. U/L call themselves a technology company. Hence, they have been able to skirt/break every local, state and federal transportation law. We know what they are, cabs with an app. Next time you order an uber or Lyft ask your driver how much he/she is making, are you in for a surprise.
Sorry for the long response but I try to educate one passenger at a time, please pass it on.
Where do I begin? As of a year ago, Uber and Lyft's percentage take of fares have skyrocketed. They both invented something called upfront or dynamic pricing. If you ordered a ride 5 times in one minute, they'll be all different. Passengers are supposed to pay by miles and minutes after the ride starts, just like cabs but U/L now have gotten rid of that and absolutely ripping you guys off. Passengers only know what they pay, thinking 75-80% of that goes to the driver, NOT SO! U/L are taking up to 50-70% of the fare on rides. They used to only screw the driver but now they turned their attention to the passenger. They're charging you surge/prime time rates and not passing it to the driver. So by eliminating the driver, there will not be as much savings as you think. In Los Angeles, we get paid 60 cents a mile and 21 cents a minute for base rides. IRS allows a 59 cent deduction this year, how many pennies can a driver put together to be profitable?
The driver does not get paid driving around and waiting for rides, if we did, UBER wouldn't be able to call us independent contractors, we'd be employees and they'll be bankrupt. We also don't knkw what the destination of the passenger is until we pick them up and start the ride.
Level 5 SDC will come around within the next decade, the costs will be appreciable higher on those rides for another decade before utilization and economies of scale take a hold and rides get priced cheaper than with a human driver. It's just Uber Koolaid sold to VC for them to get funding. Best estimates are 1.52 per mile cost for a SDC for the first decade after they're around, certainly a lot more than 60 cents drivers are getting paid now. Plus, they don't own any cars at the moment, drivers are responsible for gas, expenses, maintenance car payment etc. Then they'll own the cars with all the costs on them.
No just for LIME, juicing a lime I guess? 😆
It used to be very lucrative, people were making $200 a night for this but as with rideshare, now it's $5 for a scooter, not worth it anymore.
Uber & Lyft at the moment, was that the question?
Here's more funny buzz words.
Bird chargers, FETCH THE BIRDS, CHARGE AND RELEASE THEM.
Lime chargers are called JUICERS
More coming I'm sure 😆
E- scooters because they're electric.
Here's a literal definition:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micromobility
Personally, micro-mobility means the following. They cover very short distances and eliminate the usage of cars for short rides, such as from home to your office, school and last mile gap that exists between public transportation systems and rider's place of work or residence.
That's a possibility with blockchain technology, get rid of the middle man. There was a service like that called Sidecar. Here's its history.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidecar_(company)
Driverless, ok, half the price of the existing fares?
Passengers at the moment are in a subsidized fantasy land. Have you looked into the economics of SDC? You'll be surprised what it will cost you to catch a ride in one of those when they come around as level 5 cars, hopefully within the next decade. Here's a study from Harvard business school. There are many out there, time will tell, for now you're stuck with your Uber driver, tip them well. 😆

Taxi rates in Los Angeles, 2.85 to drop and 2.75 a mile plus 35 cents a minute if congested. Go figure! Can't wait until driverless cars, we're driving for 60/21 in Los Angeles.
In Los Angeles where I'm at, tips are at most 2 out of 10 rides. Pax think we're swimming in money, they think we're keeping 80% of what they're paying. They tip the bartender who pops their beer or valet who brings their car to them more than their Uber driver.
