LOL this article is the gift that keeps on giving.
Gee, someone should start a business where you can just push a button on your phone, and someone comes and picks you up... It would be perfect for times like this!
Well, if you were to find an Uber willing to take you that far (I'm not sure it's even possible given the border crossing), it would run you in the neighborhood of $350 for Uber X, which is the cheapest option.
I think the bus is the best option. Too bad about the timing though.
That's a long Uber ride... It's a 4 hour trip right? Any reason you are not looking into flying to Albany?
I don't think cheap rides are going away. If either Uber or Lyft raises prices, the other one will win, simple as that.
If they want to reach profitability they have to cut costs elsewhere. Uber has spent a ton on R&D eg. for their AV program. I wonder if that will go by the wayside.
I don't even know what Lyft spends all their money on.
I don't know anything about GA, but in my area, a lot of towns offer discounts for seniors on Lyft or Uber via various councils on aging, senior programs, etc. Worth looking out for.
Where do you put your luggage?
Yeah I mean it's still just going over the cell network... so it's not gonna be faster than your phone. But if you are using a laptop and your phone doesn't do hotspot it would be useful.
Yeah, I guess it does affect the "should I kick them out" decision.
Just wanted to point out that the fact that he was handicapped really has nothing to do with this. Handicapped people do not smell any more than able-bodied people do. It sounds like this guy might have some mental problems though. Sorry you had to endure it. Definitely not an open and shut case on what to do in this position as the driver. I think you did the right thing fwiw.
I feel like this guy has some problems.
Voice of wisdom...
So has Uber's total # rides declined as a result of Lyft's market share increase? Or has the entire market grown, and Lyft's just gotten a bigger piece of the bigger pie?
Ok let me get this straight. She followed this guy into his house. That was not a smart move. She didn't deserve what she got but she does not seem very street smart.
LOL. Yeah she'd be all waiting for me to figure out who she was... and I'd be all like trying to make small talk. "So do you drive for uber full time?"
LOL. what a laugh. If all these drivers are making 200K a month, guess what. They ain't gonna be driving. This business is doomed to fail.
I always laugh when I see all the hype about AVs. They tested in Phoenix, and did great! Almost ready for prime time! It's like... yeah, phoenix. Does it even rain there? 😂
They are locked in a never ending battle to the bottom with Lyft, and Didi and Ola are on the horizon as well. It's hard to see how they become profitable any time soon. It's really just a matter of who can hang on the longest, but with investors continuing to shovel money into the black holes of these companies, who knows. Could be a long while.
Not a mechanic but know a bit about cars. Starting an engine cold is hard but if it's warm already, no big deal. The pistons are all oiled up already, etc.
So I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure the engineers that designed these systems considered it, and they have an interest in building reliable cars.
Yeah, I mean, there's some weird gray areas. If you're in a car, driving down the road, are you in a public space? What if someone films you from the car next to you? What if you have tinted windows? Or, what if you're in a convertible?
Wouldn't an uber car technically be considered a public space? It's not illegal right? Just against Uber's policy. I guess that makes sense.
