don't blame them for settling. Who knows what a jury would have decided. and I think Uber is just trying to move on from their sordid past at this point, post-Kalanick...

Right. What they are really trying to grapple with is "how do we make drivers trust us while we continue to screw them". Now that is a challenge.
The article says Lyft does this too, and always has. 200% of the fare, or $50, whichever is lower.
Plus I want to put my own cool devices in it. TV etc. Make my own little self-driving palace.
Nothing. They aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Their public image is already improving post-Kalanick. I just can't imagine them getting dethroned.
I don't know why they wouldn't, but the remaining 2 will have to pay for the extra distance. Or maybe you can work out a deal up front. But I'm sure you can work it out with the driver.
It's a shame they are so ubiquitous. Tough habit to break.
