Are rideshare companies doing enough to ensure the safety of child riders?
This is kind of an eye-opening read. Drivers for popular rideshare providers Uber and Lyft don’t believe the companies are …
You should call the police. This site is not affiliated with Uber or Lyft or any other ride share company.
Ubers just gonna have to cough up more for drivers. Will they though?
Taxi industry is very lax compared to rideshares. Many drivers are undocumented immigrants. Others might not pass a background check for one reason or another. Many taxi companies don't care... Uber does.
Agreed. It is really not feasible to clean after each pax. Definitely do not expect rideshare drivers to do so.
Lot's of sickos out there.
It's the kids these days. Low effort humor is all they know.
Sorry to hear about your dad. that is a conundrum for sure. If money is no object then you can definitely pay a taxi or limo service to take you but you'll have to call around. If you are trying to save money then a bus or van service might exist. This site lists a few limo services for that route that you could get estimates for online (go to the home page ride.guru).
Uber requires a credit card. Drivers cannot accept cash...
...of course, that's just officially. If you are a clever sweet talker, maybe you can make an off-the-books arrangement with your driver when he shows up if you make the deal sweet enough...... I ain't gonna speculate on that.....
Don't get your hopes up too high. It's not a driver's market right now. It may never be.
Yup. Bingo. It sucks but it's just how it is for now.
They're a for profit company. They'll do whatever helps their bottom line.
If there is a driver shortage, they'll pay drivers more. Until then, they won't. There is no business need to.
Self driving cars are a LONG way off. At least, at any level that they affect us. I would say 20 years+. Probably more. It's nice that they can navigate a city now, but they're really in their infancy. To get to the point where they can do it fast (without losing safety) and reliable in all weather is going to take a long, long time. TBH I don't know if we will see one that can handle a real winter in our lifetimes. I think you can rest easy momof4.
I think long distance truckers will be affected by this long before we are. I would be more nervous if I was one of them but even they probably have a good decade or more before it really hits them if you ask me.
Ok so time for a(nother) new CEO? Maybe this time it will work...
I wanna know how much money that represents. That must be tens of thousands of trips.
Would be interested to hear from NYC drivers over the coming months. I wonder if they will notice an effect.
God, he's such a jerk. But whatever. Good for him.
What's the point of checking the license plate# if you are just going to ignore it when it doesn't match??
Yep. I don't trust it. Never have. All they do is basically push the button for you at the appointed time. If there happen to be no drivers available you are screwed.
In your case it sounds even worse since evidently there WERE drivers available. So who knows.
In any case, I always recommend people just book a real limo/shuttle company for early morning airport rides, etc., from suburban places where rideshare drivers might be hard to come by. The peace of mind is worth the slight extra cost IMO.
If you were afraid for your safety, you should have left them and called the cops. If not, then you did the right thing. IMO. Driving drunks around is never much fun but that is part of the job and I always figure I'm glad they called me instead of trying to drive home.
The car seat thing. They are not hard to put in properly, if you are willing to learn. It will save you sleepless nights in the future worrying about what could have happened.
Yeah reddit in general can be pretty anti-cop for some reason. So it doesn't surprise me that the normal thread was like that. Actually to be honest I think a lot of the popular subreddits are really overrun by bots and paid trolls. Why they are anti-cop I don't really know. When you get into the more specific subreddits you start to see more real/sensible opinions from actual people.
I mean, it's really common sense that you definitely should not stop and pick up street hails. If you're gonna do that, don't bother working for uber, right? You're just a gypsy cab at that point. You could have been doing that just as easily before Uber came along (and it would still have been illegal and dangerous then).
