This is kind of an eye-opening read.
Drivers for popular rideshare providers Uber and Lyft don’t believe the companies are doing enough to curb dangerous practices that put children at risk.
Specifically, the drivers are calling for both companies to hold accountable parents without car seats for their small children and unaccompanied minors.
...
He also estimates that nearly a third of his ordered rides are for unaccompanied minors – some who even have the apps in their own name. [Uber and Lyft policies require riders to be older than 18 to use the app or ride alone]

Make sure to read the article linked from this article too. https://www.abc15.com/longform/lyft-uber-car-seat-law
This news buster crew went around trying to get uber rides with a baby and no carseat. Results were a little scary.
As with the previous drivers, this driver was asked if it was okay that they did not have a child car restraint.
"Yeah, that's no problem. Just hang on to (the baby) tight," he said.
Uhhhhhhh... yeah "hang on tight" is not going to be much help in an accident... jesus.
This is like saying to an adult who is about to get on a rollercoaster, "Ya there is no restraint in that seat, just hold on tight".
OMG, that is ridiculous. So scary.
There is no frickin' way ONE THIRD of his rides are unaccompanied minors. Where the heck does this dude live? I think he is exagerating because he wanted a btter story to tell the tv stations. total bs. I bet this news story is not even fact checked. Fake News!!!
I thought the same thing so I looked at it closely. It's some crappy media story this local station purchased for a story. This isn't like a verified thing. way too much fluff to make it believable.
"Children at risk" always gets good readership.
I'm not surprised to hear how about unaccompanied minors getting picked up. There are rideshare companies devoted to that, but they are typically much more expensive. If you can skirt the rules and get your kid in an Uber X, I can see why some parents do...
Seems crazy to me. Put your kid in some random stranger's car? No way. Crazy.
If you get pulled over and there is a child not in a childseat, isn't it on the driver? Seems like a dumb move.
Right, and I'm not sure what uber and lyft are supposed to do to improve the situation. They can't stop drivers from taking these passengers.
they will probably start doing some useless mandatory training course for new drivers. To cover their ass legally.
I get it can be hard to travel with a baby but rent a car or something!! Don't cheap out on the safety of your kids.
This story is dumb. A few seconds after they say Uber has cancellation methods that won't affect the driver, and they immediately mention about how low acceptance ratings hurt them. Which is it?
The news story also makes it sound like Uber and Lyft are evail for not responding to a random request from a small local news outlet. They finish off by saying Uber and Lyft aren't saying how they are fixing the problem...but they themselves talked about how they are! (e.g. cancellation reasons) Too many holes in this story.
What complicates the scenario is that car seat laws in taxis and livery cars are looser than regular cars. No one really knows where rideshares sit in terms of the law.
