Ok, when I call an Uber and it’s empty, do I sit in the front with the driver, or in the back alone?

Since Covid , we’re not supposed to let them sit up front but when there’s too many to fit in the back seat I move all of my books and stuff and let them sit there but then I have to remember to move the seat back up when they leave. As long as they’re not jerks, it’s not a problem for me.
I HATE IT when people sit in the front with me. I still have no idea why people do it. I try to put my stuff there (water, purse, phone) to deter people from sitting beside me but some people will force me to be physically and mentally uncomfortable because they want to sit up front with me. It's so annoying.
In Australia it is consider rude to not sit up front. go figure.
I might get asked once every 500 or so rides. The 25 or so people who have asked me in the last 5 years are mostly older and have ambulation issues. I'm fine with someone sitting in the front.
Honest thought? Yuh. that's just plain weird. messed up
I usally don't mind. I have a Prius, maybe people prefer the front as it is indeed more comfortable.
People just hop on the front like a friend would. Friendly and engaging. nothing wrong with that.
Then of course, there are the anomalies. I've had a dude who sat in the front and said absolutley nothing.
You probably have a point with the Prius thing. I drive an Explorer and I have never had anyone try to sit in the front seat. not once.
