Yesterday, I had a driver who mentioned how he hates the people in rich towns and he gives negative ratings just because. (also mentioned rich people don't tip, but I digress)
Well, what the heck. I live in an affluent neighborhood. I don't think he picked up on that, but this did get me thinking. Could I be penalized from jealous and petty drivers?
Is this a common practice? I'd like to think it was a bad apple who is jealous and petty, but I have gotten comments from drivers who drop me off or pick me up at home that I live in a "really nice neighborhood."

AS a driver i certainly wouldn't rate someone less than 5 stars because the're wealthy. However I will say in my experience wealthy folks tend to be really lousy tippers regardless of how much you go out of your way to cater to them.
The best tippers tend to be people who work in similar industries such as waiters and service industry folks. They "get it"... they understand how vitally important it really is.
If I only had a dollar for every pax who said I'll tip you in the app, I'd be a millionaire. 😆
Since the rates are crap for the drivers, tips are always appreciated. If you don't tip you may get a bad rating, I doubt it though, UBER never deactivated pax for low ratings like they do with drivers. 4.60 or below will het a driver booted of the platform.
I wouldn't penalize you for this but I have seen my fair share of wealthy people who do not tip (I guess that is why they are wealthy, stingy!). So do the right thing and tip right away and I guarantee you will get 5 stars!
I would hope a driver wouldn't give anyone a bad rating because of where they live. Just like riders a driver can rate a passenger below 5 stars. There are a few choices you can click why or you can select "other". I am sure the driver dont say "because they live in wealthy neighborhood" but they can say "rude".
I will be totally honest about the tips and how drivers are treated. In my experience a majority (not all) riders who live in wealthy neighborhoods do not tip. Many (not all) riders who do have $ and live in wealthy neighborhoods tend to ignore the driver, talk down to them, and be more demanding. However as a driver I do not give less than 5 stars for those reasons unless they are rediculously rude and demanding. Tips are great and very much appreciated (even $2) but optional. How you treat someone is totally different. No reasons to treat someone rude because they have more than them or they think they are better than them because…

Many intelligent hard working people are drivers. Never judge a book by it's cover. You dont know why that person is driving.
