Or is Ubers app? Or both??? My son & his gf went out Friday night to his Christmas party & they were drinking. I volunteered to picknthem up but when the time came I was too tired. I ordered an Uber for them. My son had tipped the driver in cash but I wanted to add a few $ because I am a driver and no how tips help. I also like to see whats going on with the rider app. I rated the driver 5 stars & tried to tip him. It wouldn't allow me to tip him. It kept saying "you all ready rated your driver" after trying 3X I decided to reach out to CS. The response I got back was " the driver opted out of tips". I wasnt buying that answer as what driver would opt out of tips. I know when tipping first started that it was an issue but this is 2 yrs later. So now I am thinking how do I get a hold of this driver to tell him because again why would he do this? Got up the next day and gave it one last try and was able to add the tip. My question is how many rides does this happen on? How many CS reps have given the excuse that the driver opted out of tipping? Most likely once the rider has an issue with tipping the driver is then forgotten. Lets assume some riders contact CS how many of them just picked the same scripted answer figuring they will send it case closed? Either way most likely the driver is out of a tip. We all to often hear from our riders "we will tip you in the app" never to see a tip. I am sure most have no intentions. I still cannot understand why a rider feels the need to say they will tip and then not do it. Anyway what if there are riders who say they will tip and cant?  I did email Uber back with a nasty email for t…

Anyway what if there are riders who say they will tip and cant?  I did email Uber back with a nasty email for the CS rep lying. To date have not heard back. Not that I expected to. Below is a screenshot of the answer I got when I inquired as to why I couldn't tip.

Surge Lies

I found out 2 things this weekend. The 2nd one is something drivers have suspected for a long time. I am not the first to post about it. Drivers are being shown a Surge map, in this case 6.50. Uber charges rider $30. Driver gets $6.50 + 1.15 for a consecutive trip bonus. Where is the rest going? Ubers pocket. Funny thing is when you go into the driver app to trip breakdown Uber shows the rider pd a different amt and shows Uber only took 20/25% of the ride. In the rider app it now doesnt show what you pd for the surge amt. That extra $ all hidden from driver and rider app. To see more detailed info about this go to "Angry Drivers" here in the Forum. Thread - Uber drivers seeing surge map. What is Uber really charging rider?

When riders say "I'll tip you in the app" drivers obviously know they are not getting tipped. On occassion when a rider says that  I do actually get a tip. Your post makes you wonder if more riders are trying to tip and running into issues. If so how often? How much has it cost drivers? Not only was the app a problem but so was CS. I am sure most riders would of clicked "tip" 1/2 times and gave up. Sucks there is nota damn thing drivers can do it's nit like we can contact Uber and get help. Thanks for sharing your experience though. Maybe all those I'll tip you in the app riders are not cheapass liars after all.
