And 75% cheaper than UberX!! The idea is it will match you with pool riders that are within a few blocks of you. It makes you both walk to a pickup point.

Will people be willing to walk a few blocks to save money?

In some cities this makes sense. But in cities that have decent public transportation options I can't see how this is much easier. For instance in NYC the subway is ridiculously convenient, I can't imagine peope using this service when you could probably walk a block and be at the subway and not have to sit in traffic.

This might actually give the subway a run for its money, cost wise. It's gonna be super cheap.

Well, I think one hope for this kind of service is that it reduces traffic. If enough people forgo their own personal cars/taxis/rideshares and use options like Uber Express Pool, the traffic will significantly decrease. People just have to buy into it and be ok being inconvenienced for the greater good.

People will use it. But I think it will be somewhat rare. People are lazy. Including myself. I guess if I was a dirt poor college student with lots of time maybe I'd use it occasionally.

You wouldn't walk 2 blocks for ride that probably rivals the cost of the subway? It's not like Uber is askingyou to walk a mile first...

Nope. Why do that when I can have someone pick me up right where I stand, sooner, and for probably only a few dollars more? I'm not even ashamed to say it. And, like it or not, I think this attitude will be shared by many.

ARGHHHH Just another way Uber is going to cut driver's pay, mark my words. Drivers will only make pennies off of rides like this. BS!

Drivers are still being paid per mile/per minute wages along with the base fare but apparently there are other issues according to Recode.

"However, some drivers who have already tried Express Pool in Boston and San Francisco have complained that passengers either don’t understand that it’s not a door-to-door service, or they still insist on being picked up or dropped off in front of their location.

“It’s much more effort, many of the intersections Uber chooses as a good Express pickup location are very dangerous, and there is no good spot to safely pull over and pick up the passenger,” Thad, a Boston driver who has been working on the Uber platform since September 2017, told Recode. “It’s more effort, more headache, more potential for complications and a bad rating over things the driver has no control of.”
