Trump always makes the news
Capitol Hill interns say Uber driver refused to take them to Trump DC hotel because they had MAGA hats
Congressional interns said that an Uber driver refused to take them to President Trump’s Washington, D.C., hotel because they had “Make America Great Again” hats.
Matthew Handy told FOX 5 on Friday that he and a group of Capitol Hill interns hailed a ride near George Washington University earlier this week. But when the driver saw Trump’s signature red campaign hats in their hands, Handy said, he refused to take them to the hotel.
“He's like, ‘Is that a Make America Great Again hat?’” Handy said of the driver. “We're like, ‘Yes, sir. It is.’ He said, ‘Well, I can't do this ride.”
The intern who ordered the ride was not charged, the outlet reported.
Handy called for the Uber driver to be fired because he said the group was not being obnoxious or pushy. The interns are also calling for an apology.
"We also want a statement acknowledging that he's been terminated because not only did he break Uber's laws, he broke D.C. law," Handy told FOX 5. "Because you cannot discriminate because of somebody's political beliefs.”
In a statement to the news station, Uber said they were investigating the incident.
“We aim to provide a reliable service to everyone who uses Uber,” the ride-sharing company said. “We have reached out to both the rider and the driver, and continue to look into this.”
It is not known yet whether the driver is still employed by Uber.

What DC law? I thought people can deny service to whomever they pleased?
What about that cake maker who didn't make a wedding cake for the gay couple? I thought they found that was completely legal.
You can't be disciminated by age, gender, or sexual orientation. I believe you can be for how you are dressed or what your opinions are. I mean, if I hate you or you are being an asshole, I should be able to deny service and/or walk away.
we aren't employees!!
What are they trying to imply now... that we're REQUIRED to transport people in our privately owned vehicles even if we find them offensive?
Can we cancel before arriving? Sure.
Can I throw them out enroute if they offend me? Yup.
How is this any different?
There is only one reason for them to carry around those hats... to make a political statement and piss off people that don't share their political views. They accomplished what they wanted. They pissed someone off. Now they can find another ride.
Is there a single Uber or Taxi driver that are pro-Trump?
Well, there are very occasionally black guys at Trump's rally. So I hear. I don't see them on TV though.
