What to do if someone takes your uber or lyft car?

One time I requested a car and it showed up -- I watched someone else walk into the car from across the street. I chased them down but the car did not stop. I was freaking out because it looked like the trip had started, and I was the one paying for it! This is the drivers fault for not checking to make sure it was the right person. It took me a while to get another car for them to figure it out. I kept calling the driver. Such a frustrating experience.

What should I do next time?

Cancel the ride. As a driver I had this happen once. I immediately stopped and dropped the stowaway in a safe spot.

If you are charged, simply submit a request via help for a refund.

Funny how this complain comes up on this forum regularly.

Don't blame the driver.  It is a predatory scam being delivered by passengers to hurt other passengers.  People try to steal other people's Ubers all the time. It's a ticket to a free ride.  They all think it's so clever and also a victimless crime.

I heard college students bragging and promoting it to each other multiple times.  This is definitely a thing

This has happened to me twice already. However, Uber reversed the charges immediately both times. They seem to have it down to a science.

Which is sorta sad because it tells the tale that it happens a lot.

Wait so it is the drivers fault when you the person who ordered the ride is calling and texting that driver during this process that they have NOT picked you up and also my picture is on the app so you are telling us that it’s not the drivers fault !? Ha okay predatory scam or not there has to be a resolve and I’m looking to make this very very picnic now that it happened to me after just signing up for the Lyft app recently

I will make it my business to get attention to this problem and have the public know how they conduct business with no refunds after proving to them it was not me in that Lyft car

I will be using Uber from now on

Cancel the ride and contact Uber to reverse any charges.  The driver should be notified and take appropriate action at that point.
