What is 'Lyft Family'?

Lyft Family Account

 

Lyft Family is a special feature of the Lyft app that allows family and friends to link accounts. This is especially helpful for parents with grown children who wish to still pay for Lyft rides to and from classes or work. Through Lyft Family, family members or friend groups can all use a shared payment method to pay for Lyft rides. 

With every Lyft Family account there is one “organizer” or chief account. The organizer has the ability to access safety features, including ride details (driver details and location tracking), for all members on the family account. As the organizer of a Lyft Family account, you can share your payment method with up to five family members to pay for rides. The organizer is the only one who can see payment details and share a payment method with other family members. The organizer also has the ability to order Lyft rides for anyone on their family account.

Each member of a family account can toggle between their personal Lyft or their family account, choosing which payment method they would like to use before requesting a ride. Please keep in mind that all family members must be at least 18 years old to have a Lyft account.

How to Create a Lyft Family Account:

  1. Open your Lyft app and tap on the menu in the upper left-hand corner.
  2. Tap on the purple “View Profile” link
  3. Tap on “Family” underneath “Account Settings
  4. Follow the prompts to add a payment method and members to your family account!

 

How to Track Payment History for Family Rides:

  1. Open your Lyft app
  2. Tap 'View account' in the menu
  3. Tap 'Lyft Family’
  4. Tap 'Payment history'


How to Update the Family Account Payment Method:

  1. Open your Lyft app
  2. Tap 'View account' in the menu
  3. Tap ‘Lyft Family’
  4. Go to ‘Payment’
  5. Tap the payment method to update


How to Delete a Family Member from a Shared Account:

  1. Open your Lyft app
  2. Tap 'View account' in the menu
  3. Tap ‘Lyft Family’ and tap a Family Member
  4. Once you have selected someone tap “Remove from Family”


How to Leave a Lyft Family Group:

  1. Open your Lyft app
  2. Tap 'View account' in the menu
  3. Tap ‘Lyft Family’ and tap “View All”
  4. Then Tap “Leave Family” at the bottom of the screen. Remember! You can only be in one “family” at any one time.
