Well, 3-star rating is pretty bad as you (the driver) will never be matched up with that rider. In a small town, this is a big deal! :)

Carry a simple spray bottle like a "mister". Spray a few times between rides and you are all set.

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve done the same.
However I understand that the umbrella coverages are not be available for everyone, like those with a few driving violations for speeding. I found out this recently.

It seems pretty much a given that most drivers play games on their phones. Not a healthy habit, I tell you.
Every one in a while you hear about passengers catching drivers playing while they are in middle of a trip. I am not saying it's ok...but I get it. Tough to put it down and what if it's not a good spot to stop? LOL.

I keep reading about how Uber is "making up" fares in the name of upfront pricing and to secretly steal what should be a surge fare from the drivers. So I feel if I deviate from the original route, the fare calculation gets wanky.
though, it looks like I would be helping my customers if the fare does end up changing, because if I changed the route and the fare had to be recalculated, it would be under an honest distance/rate charge Uber should be charging always.
I do stress the customers thinking I took a longer route though. I suppose that shouldn't happen as long as I am using a decent gps app.
Yes, I actually get this 1 out of every 15~20 rides. Fairly common. In various forms though.

Uber takes tolls from the riders and then passes them on to the driver. No fees taken. So I don’t think they would benefit anyways. Must be honest mistake?
Unless, they are charging the fees to customers but not paying them out to drivers. Now that would be super wrong.
Yes, people in britain love Uber. Are you kidding. As much as the existing taxi companies complain, they were expensive and not available in all areas of London burbs. Uber filled the need and met the affordability. They are definitely here to stay.
I was wondering the same thing when I read this. he might be talking about when the rides started when you just approached the rider and his or her location. Now you have to accept it. (at least with Lyft you do.) So maybe his intention is to just start running the meter.

It’s the worst. Always makes me feel weird and icky. I strongly believe it isn’t my job to vet out the age of every passenger. After all, they’re the ones breaking the terms of Uber’s app.
Then again, sometimes we have to. I hear it affects insurance and how I can get into big trouble with the law. Not sure how we are to protect ourselves though.
Really! Two surprises.
1) You think 4.5 is too low? Kudos to you.
2) I tend to solely look at the time to pick the pax up. Not the rating so much. They give you so little time to accept and I am always scrambling, so I rarely see the ratings.
Yeah, that. or just raise the rates by 15%. please.

like during selected times of the day when I don't feel like doing tiny short distance rides. (and slow)
It's an app that calculates the averages of all of your star ratings. It's actually the same math that I have done in the past..and that's too many times to admit. and I bet you have too.
You get that 3-star rating, and you do the math on how many more times it takes to recover. Sigh....
