This fight will continue in the courts for a very long time while Uber and Lyft spend millions trying to protect their core business and profits. Eventually the drivers will have to "agree" to a new TOS that states we are choosing to drive as a contractor and understand that we may not earn minimum wage as a result of our work (especially after deductions where we ALL know that based on our tax records, few of us are actually making more than minimum wage per hour invested once you take the mileage deduction - which by the way, if VERY revealing about the reality of the entire driving gig). My guess is that after the smoke clears and the courts get weary from ongoing litigation, Uber/Lyft WILL win and the vast majority of drivers will have received enough propaganda from said companies to actually be supporting them and saying Amen.
I know I am tired of hearing about AB5. When all the smoke clears Uber and Lyft will prevail along with politicians that were pd off. I trust none of them. They all dont have whats best for the driver in mind when making decisions. We all knew when we signed up there were no benefits. You drive you got paid however they keep lowering rates, deactivating drivers on false reports, and there is no safety for the driver. I do not want to be an employee. If they would just increase rates 25/35% go back to 80/20% split, rider needs to sign up with valid ID, fix the BS with riders making false accusations. I think most drivers would be happy. I know these things I mentioned wont happen. In the end Uber and Lyft will get what they want. If not they will retaliate against drivers in some way we all leave because we are miserable. New drivers wont know what it used to be like so of course they will continue to sign up to drive.
Of course they don't becuase Uber and Lyft think they are above the law. UGH PLEASE!
How will they plan to get by the new laws, they get so on my nerves.
It started with Tony West chief counsel for Uber and brother in law of Kamala Harris telling reporters that UBER does not fall under the umbrella of AB5 because they're a technology platform and the driver is not essential to the core part of their business. Despicable really! Long fight coming as well as 90 million for a state referendum to overturn AB5 which they will lose.
Go back to the 80/20% split it whatever it was when they signed up and be done with all this BS. So tired of hearing this crap. Drivers knew when they signed up there were no benefits, sick time, etc...Autonomous cars will not be ready as fast as they thought. Suck it up increase drivers rates and treat drivers better.
I dont think they really have a choice. The days of picking and choosing which laws to follow for Uber are coming to an end. People are fed up!
Will be interesting to see how this plays out....
This is how it will play out: Uber and Lyft will dump California. If you need a "just wage" AND benefits, go find a corporate job. If you're pushing for unions, be prepared to leave the ride-share industry, or become a cabbie. There is no way the model works with unions and "just wages."
Maybe once Uber and Lyft dump California, there will be an uproar by the public and they will overturn the new regulations. Then Uber and Lyft come back
