Just be human. both sides. End of story.
No! No way! You can't make the driver have a conversation with you. You can't make anyone have a conversation with you.
Then again, I suppose this is a good question, because the reality is that there is a customer involved who may talk to the driver and it needs to be appropriately responded to. I suppose the driver can make an excuse and just explain his or her preference to not talk?
