Each rideshare app will tell you the approximate amount of time that you will have to wait for your vehicle to arrive before you even request your ride. Typically this wait time varies from 5 to 15 minutes depending on where you are traveling and time of day.
Once you request your car you will be given a second wait time figure that will show you how long until your driver arrives at your pick up location.

Just to add to Lilly Guru's answer... The wait time obviously depends on the availability of the vehicles at the time of your request and your location. Here's a tip. If you are not happy with the wait time being too long, try different car type or services. Say, if the waittime is too long for UberBlack, try Uber X or UberPool. ...or even Lyft for that matter.
