Shows off the power of flexible on-demand workforce. Gig-economy at its best.
Mitchell is part of a growing number of seniors driving for ride-hailing apps, such as Uber and Lyft, to supplement their retirement income. On the flip side, the costs and regulations to be a driver are rising while the pay rates have fallen.
Will Uber drivers becoming employees put a stop to this?

Wait, does Uber not cap the age of the drivers? Can anyone drive?
I don't mean to be mean to gramps but I am not sure if I want 80 year old people driving people around. How do they even quality for auto insurance . I feel like the liability and its risks would be very high.
No, I don't think Uber caps the age. I do not see that under the Uber driver requirements.

I'd assume they just stick to each state's determination of being a licensed driver. If you have a driver's license and have a semi-clear driving record, you are good.
I've been driving for more than 40 years, and in that time I've been in ZERO accidents and received ZERO tickets. Tell me how much of a hazard I am compared to the 20 somethings with multiple accidents and who habitually drive and text, etc.
Guys, stop bashing on old people.

People are missing the point. I was trying to post this as a heartwarming and beneficial side of rideshare and gig-economy. Oh, man.
Now I have to deal grandma and grandpa on the road
See, Tony, people’s minds are going to “wow, how dangerous,” because retirement implies that they’re not in the workforce and that they quit work for various other reasons.
