Yes, you can totally do this. One way is to do the multi-destination trip.

Or just ask your driver once you get to the destination. The price will be automatically reflected so the drivers shouldn’t mind.
Worst case, you can always request for another car when you are done. You may even get the same driver if he or she is still close.
And round trips are weird. That’s like saying you wanna go to where you started from then add a stop. I actually don’t know if it’ll work.
This feature has been a little funky since Covid, just fyi. I think you can still do it but you may have to pay a flat hourly rate.

Most drivers will not want to keep the car running for you as they do not make much sitting around waiting. I would recommend just ordering another Uber or Lyft when you are done with your errand. If you are truly going to only be 30 seconds in a building, just dropping something off, then you can tell your driver and they might wait there for you to request a ride home.
