Lyft's Express Drive Program

Do you want to drive for Lyft, but not own your own car? Lyft's Express Drive program helps you rent a car so you can start driving and earning with Lyft!

The Express Drive program is available in select cities across the United States including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and more! The details vary by city and by rental car provider. To find out information specific to your city, go through the steps to become a driver and learn more.

How to Become an Express Driver with Lyft

1. Apply to drive at lyft.com/expressdrive if the Express Drive program is available in your city. If you’re already an approved driver for Lyft, you can join the program too! Visit the ‘Vehicles’ tab of your Driver Dashboard. Tap the ‘Rent a Vehicle’ button to get started with the Express Drive program. 
2. You must be 25+ years old to rent a vehicle through Hertz.
3. You must meet Lyft's Driver Requirements
4. You must provide a refundable deposit to begin the Express Drive program.
5. After you’re approved to drive, you can schedule a vehicle pickup and get started driving with Lyft. 

Personal/Rental Car Switching 
You can switch back and forth between your own vehicle and rental vehicle through Lyft’s Express Drive Program. Car switching allows you to switch between multiple Lyft-approved vehicles. You can use both cars, though you may be ineligible for Power Driver Bonus and Rental Rewards if you switch between vehicles

Vehicle Pickups & Availability

Demand for rental cars is high, and there are a limited number available through Lyft’s Express Drive Program. Rental vehicles are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. To schedule a vehicle pickup, visit your Driver Dashboard

Rental Car Payments and Charges

Rental car prices and program details vary by city and rental car provider, so be sure to view those details once you begin the application process.

Rental car payments and associated costs are automatically deducted from your weekly earnings with Lyft. Any weekly rental costs not covered by earnings are charged to your payment method.

Rental Car Pricing and Costs
After you’ve collected weekly ride earnings, the following rental costs are applied to your earnings:

• Vehicle Rental Fee* (Weekly Base Fee):Weekly rental rates are based on the amount of rides you give with Lyft. For more information on Lyft’s tiered rental pricing, check the “The More You Drive, The Less You Pay” section on the Express Drive page. 
• Rental Taxes:Applicable state, local, sales, and rental taxes are added weekly. 
• Applicable Fees:Rental providers may apply additional fees (e.g., Cleaning fees, key replacement fees, GM Maven’s Vehicle Damage Surcharge).
