One benefit of the advent of rideshare services is how wheelchair accessible vehicles are more readily available for passengers with accessibility needs. Lyft has dedicated an entire mode within their app to help passengers get around who need additional vehicle space and help. This mode is called Access Mode and we are going to walk you through how to enable Access Mode within your Lyft app. When Access Mode is enabled, passengers may request a vehicle that is designed to accommodate a full-sized, non-foldable wheelchair.
5. Type in your destination, then swipe left to see additional modes
6. Tap "More" then tap "Access" to select wheelchair mode
7. Tap "Request Access," confirm your pickup location, and you're all set!
Access Mode is not currently available in all markets. If you require additional assistance but only need to transport a foldable wheelchair, walker, or scooter, then you can simply request a regular Lyft. According to Lyft’s website, drivers are required by law and by Lyft’s policy to transport riders who use foldable mobility devices. Drivers are also required to assist riders in the storage of their mobility devices, unless physically unable to do so.
Have you used Lyft’s Access Mode before? If so, let us know your thoughts on our forum.
