Rider Safety Checklist
Rider safety is a big concern for many new rideshare users. Companies have implemented tons of features to protect riders and promote an environment of respect. However, there are actions riders can take themselves to ensure an enjoyable and safe ride. Take a look through our rider checklist!
Request in a safe location
Request your ride inside a building, at a safe starting location. Stay inside at this location until your ride is in sight avoid requesting alone, after leaving an event when possible.
Double check vehicle details
Before getting in, check the vehicle make, model, and license plate. Many apps have pictures of the expected vehicle to make it easier to identify.
Chat with the Driver
Greet the driver by name when entering the vehicle. This double checks that you’re in the correct ride, with the correct driver.
Watch your route in real-time as you move towards your destination. Whether you are familiar with the area or not, you will be able to tell if you are headed in the right direction.
Share your ride
Share your ride and estimated time of arrival with friends and family. Many apps allow you to send your trip to others to follow along in real-time.
Never pay with cash
Never pay with cash, even if a driver requests it. The large majority of rideshare companies charge directly through the app, on your associated card.
Rate your ride
If you have a bad experience or driver, immediately share your comments here. A support representative will reach out to you to sort out the issue.
Call for immediate support
If you think your experience should be known immediately, for safety of other passengers, call support immediately to report. Lines are generally open 24 hours a day.
Other Safety Measures
Random Match: All riders and drivers are matched anonymously, so there is no possibility of discrimination based on gender, race, or destination.
Hidden Number: Technology is used to anonymize phone numbers to keep your contact details confidential.
Scored GPS: GPS tracking is on and saved for every ride - so your location is always accounted for.
Law enforcement: rideshare services have a history of being very open and helpful with law enforcement, providing data and details when necessary.
