Using Uber Internationally

Traveling internationally is an amazing opportunity, but getting around in a new and foreign destination can be a headache. Cabs used to be the go to for travelers nationally and internationally, but Uber has changed the game around the world. Instead of shelling out your hard earned money on cabs, save by spending a fraction of the price on Ubers, so you can keep your cash for the fun stuff on your travels. To keep the stress to a minimum, there are a few things you can do to ensure Uber runs smoothly while you’re having the time of your life abroad.

One of the most important things to make sure you do before heading off on your travels is to make sure your card on file is up to date. Doing this before leaving will ensure you are ready to ride without having any issues with payment. The other very important thing to do in relation to your card on file is to alert your bank or financial institution you will be traveling. Cards are watched very carefully to protect from fraud. If you don’t let your bank know you will be abroad, they may shut your card off if they are unaware of your trip. Avoid any issues by letting them know ahead of time.

The Uber app is always updating to keep up with the market and make sure it’s running smoothly for everyone. Before taking off, checking to see if you have the most up to date version of the app makes sure there are no issues on your trip.

When you change countries, you also change currencies. The cost of Uber is always charged in the local currency. Exchange rates are always fluctuating, but they are pretty consistent from day to day. It’s a good idea to look up what the exchange rate is so you know an approximation of what you will be spending when you order your next ride. You can also use RideGuru's Fare Calculator to see the cost of your ride.

Location is important when you’re traveling internationally. It’s important to be specific about your pick up location with your driver in order to avoid confusion or getting lost. Data isn’t necessary to using Uber. Wifi works just fine. Data rates can be huge internationally, so shutting of data and using wifi can cut costs immensely.

It is almost impossible to travel without luggage. When you’re going abroad for a small amount of time, luggage is necessary. One of the most important things to do is not lose your luggage or have it stolen. Wait for your Uber driver to get out of the car before you do if you have luggage in the trunk. Sometimes, it’s an accident because people forget, and other times, it’s not as innocent. To avoid losing or misplacing luggage, always wait for the driver to exit the vehicle.

Traveling is wonderful, and Uber makes it so much easier to get around. Being cautious and making sure everything is updated will help make the trip even smoother.
