Ok since a few people have wondered about this:
How much does it cost to charge a scooter? Less than you might think. Just to run some rough numbers:
The scooter batteries' capacities are reported to be about 8800mAh at 36V. We can convert this to watt hours: 8800 * 36 / 1000 = 316.8Wh
Electricity costs on average of 12 cents per kilowatt hour (ie. 1000 watt hours) in the US. So, the cost of charging one of these scooters from empty is going to be something like:
(316.8 / 1000) * 12 = 4 cents
It's probably a bit more than that since chargers are not 100% efficient. And, the cost of electricity varies between different locations, so take this with a grain of salt. But it's safe to say the electricity cost of charging these things is not something to worry much about.
Back left. Driver always protects his side first.
Uber will just buy them. Seriously. The cars, I mean. Well, maybe the company too, depending on who it is...
Someone was vaping in the car ahead of me the other day... and it smelled. Fruity. Maybe I wouldn't mind the smell so much if I didn't know I was breathing in someone else's lung junk, but it was pretty gross.
Technically speaking gas is a fluid. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluid
I doubt it. They're smart. They'll adapt. Europe is way too big a market to ignore.
This whole ruling makes sense. Uber wants to be seen as a marketplace, but then it would follow that each individual driver is it's own transportation provider business, right? That doesn't seem to hold water. Uber's the one hiring them.
"hey remember that thing...with the money.... Yeeeeeaaaaahh.... About that"
"Travis kalanick sweet sixteen party"
Yeah but the cynical side of me thinks they had a whistleblower about to go public, and wanted to get ahead of the story...
Wow, I've always wondered when they'd take the plunge.
Sometimes it even has little molded channels for your arms to go into with handcuffs on. I mean, I heard that.
The backseats of those cruisers are really uncomfortable though... My friend told me.
"All four doors must be able to open and close from the interior and the exterior"
So I guess that rules out cop cars. Too bad, could be a nice moonlighting opportunity.
They forgot The Tourist.
Sounds like the buyer is more interested in his real estate holdings. Over 2 acres in the fenway area, that's insane.
The taxi business is like an afterthought. A few years ago the medallions alone would have been worth more than $145M. Amazing.
Boy it's really piling up on Uber...
This is a great point. About unions etc. Uber made their name on "disrupting" the industry and getting around regulations. It's interesting to see the result of it.
It's a pretty bizarre reaction at the end. Really seems out of proportion to the situation. I agree, he seems stressed... or drunk.
Seems like this type of culture is rampant in Silicon Valley. Reminiscent of the Ellen Pao situation a couple years ago.
I have not been able to reproduce the error, unfortunately. I've sent a note to the rest of our team to see if anyone else can.
