False Accusation for Assault

I've been driving for Uber for about 2 months.  My account was suspended on Sunday as I was about to go out. I saw a 1-star review but had no other info.  I was only a few rides away from getting a $120 bonus.

Anyway, I racked my brain trying to figure out what trip I screwed up or what I could have said to insult somebody. Nothing.

Uber promised a reply 'as soon as a 'Trust and Safety' agent was available.  Finally Tuesday afternoon I got a call where the agent accused me of punching, pulling a gun on, then robbing a passenger.  I don't own a gun, drive a nice car (2018 Audi A5), have a nice main income, yada yada yada.  No way in hell I'm going to do risk all of that to assault a random passenger.

Long story short, they won't remove the 1-star review, the accusing passenger faces no repercussions at all, and Uber "Graciously" allowed me to get back on the platform.

In the real world, if somebody falsely accuses me of a real crime, I can defend myself. Here, they act like I'm lucky to have my suspension removed.  Is there anything I can do besides stop driving?

Oh man, wow. I never really thought of this situation before but that sucks. Do you have video footage (dash cam) or audio you can provide to clear your name?

I am confused why someone would claim this if it wasn't true, what do they have to gain from it? I worry that this happened to someone and they reported it on the wrong ride. I might take this stance when replying to Uber - you are worried that whoever did do this is still out driving passengers around.

I think it's possible they got the wrong driver, but clearly there hasn't been a police report (Uber or not, this should have been reported to the police - it's a violent crime if it happened).

I think it's likely that I dropped somebody off and they got in a fight and figured the Uber driver was a safe fall-guy or whoever was waiting for them wanted the cash and the passenger lied and said I took it.  Unfortunately I get a lot of pax traveling on other people's accounts, which really defeats the trust system.

I'm trying to decide if I should just stop driving or get a dashcam.  I did have one pax that night ask me if I had one, and I said no.  The Trust person from Uber said "get one if you want, make sure you follow local regs." Not sure what that means, if I get one it will always be on and if somebody doesn't like it they cancel the ride and pay a fee, not me.

I guess what's obvious from this is that Uber is looking out for Ube…

I guess what's obvious from this is that Uber is looking out for Uber - they won't even remove the one-star rating even though it was clearly fraudulent (if they had any doubt at all they should report the whole thing to the police).  A customer who does this is dangerous and should be de-platformed.  Period.  The Safety & Trust person told me that nothing will happen to the passenger unless there is a pattern of multiple false reports.

Good news is it looks like this isn't a common thing, at least.

You just have to post in your vehicle that you have a dashcam running - this site actually sends users free stickers to put in your back windows alerting passengers to a dashcam.

This is the world lately.   If you get assaulted, or someone steals from you, Uber will not back you up, they will not ban the customer, they will tell you to call the police and let them handle it.  If you are not diamond, they will not even answer a support call after 8pm.  Too many people are using different methods to get free rides by lying about the driver.  Also, they will not tell you which ride it was.  Offering them footage does nothing if they do not mention it soon enough as a smooth ride is no reason to flag a recording to not be over-written.  IT SUCKS.
