Sammi's Law was passed in NJ by Gov. Murphy. This stems from the young lady who was in College in SC (home was in NJ) jumped into a car that was not her Uber. The man wasnt even an Uber driver. He stabbed her to death and buried her body which was found approx 2 days later. A campaign started "say my name" which caused a lot of confusion, drivers cancelling riders, riders getting mad because driver wouldn't say their name first. Uber & Lyft have 9 mths to comply or their permit to operate will be suspended or revoked. I have a few questions. Suppose you are a PA, NY, or DE driver taking a rider into NJ? Your a driver that dont live in NJ but do a lot of driving in NJ? What happens then? A rider is blind, illiterate, or cant read English? What do those riders do? Do we stick permits all over our car in different languages? Do we have ones made in braille? Not trying to be a smart ass but these issues could come up (ok maybe not the illiterate one). What happened to Uber's code that was suppose to be tested in FL. market? I had it happen to 2 of my trips in NJ. Once trip it didnt work and 1 it did. That was simple and easy. Problem was when I contacted Uber support on the trip it wouldnt work they had no clue what I was talking about. I had to explain it to them:)
I though…

I thought it was horrible when people were complaining about this young girl being so careless. She was dead. The more I read and the more comments I seen I understand why drivers were mad. I am not making light of this girls death. May she rest in peace. My prayers go out to her family. No parent should have to bury their child. However where were her friends? Why was she drinking & taking an Uber home by herself? She had to be pretty drunk just to hop in any car with no signs and not checking any info she had right in front of her on the app. These riders have all of our info in front of them, they can see us pull up, they can share their trip, they can contact 911 by swiping in the app. How is this our fault or Uber & Lyft's (for once dont think they are responsible for something). There have been drivers killed out on the road. A pregnant woman was stabbed to death. Where is our protection, where are the politicians, Uber, Lyft? We cant even see real names. People sign up on platform with fake names, gift cards, no ID. Thats ok though. I just see this turning into 1 big mess when it comes to out of state drivers coming into NJ or taking riders out of NJ. Drivers, what are your thoughts? Is this a good idea or do riders all ready have enough info? Passengers/Riders, do you check the profile pic, license plate, color, make, and model of the car picking you up? If this were to happen in your market would it help? Or is just as easy to see whats in the app and check it against app? Please share.

I had a few in Philly when I did a few bar pick ups one night after that young girl was killed. I explained why we needed their name first. Only one 30 something drunk female with her hubby gave me a hard time. He basically told her to shut up. She was killed in SC and was from NJ. Seems like drivers from down South were having issues. Not sure where else.
I take like 22 Uber rides are week, and I have never had any driver ask me anything. They just pull up and we go.
This is in LA.
my guess is they will tell rideshare apps that they are officially taxi cabs which means you as the driver must be taxi insured and licensed. As the saying goes it's not about the money but it is about the money
All I can think about when reading this topic is Beyonce and the Destiny's Child.
It is unfortunate how there is such a lack of critical thinking in this country... and the kneejerk reactions that result from it. It is called communication... and being aware. If you do stupid things, stupid things happen. Passengers have all the info they need to be safe. Drivers only get a name, which is often not even real and a phone number that often does not work. This is all PATHETIC. absolutely pathetic.
