Hey, drivers...   I know many of you drive for both companies, but which one do you prefer?  Say, if you had to pick one?

Consider things like:

  1. Payouts - Which pays you more and gets you more fares?
  2. Corporate culture
  3. Rules on cars, backgroudn checks, etc.

I spoke to a few drivers about it, and they all told me they are pretty much the same.  Similar on-boarding process, similar payouts, similar apps, etc.  Some nuances, like feedback system, willingness of riders to tip, but they told me they just use one or the other.

One guy I spoke to in NJ told me he used Uber and Juno.  I asked why not Lyft, and he told me it's because the payout is significantly less if you own a car that qualifies as a BLACK CAR.  So, if you are comparing Uber X and Lyft, it's similar, but when it comes to Uber Black and Lyft, Uber Black wins out.

That makes some serious sense.  Obviously, the rates are higher for luxury car service. If you own a Lexus, why compete with Lyft's Corollas.

I drive for both and prefer Lyft always. Lyft offers crazy incentives to get you to drive more, lots of bonuses and extra cash if you meet a certain number of rides in a certain timeframe. Everyone I've worked with there has always been so helpful.... can't say the same for Uber at all - not as personal or responsive

This is slightly outdated, but I found this too.

I've driven for both, but I stick with Uber in most instances.  Lyft has the more casual culture. Fistbumps and high-fives.  Uber seems more mechanical and corporate.

In my personal experience Lyft paid out a lot less.  I had it in my mind that Lyft paid me about $1 a mile cheaper.  Not scientific, I know.

Speaking of double-dipping drivers, here's something my fellow driver shared with me.
