Uber's self driving car division has a strange term for people and animals...
We're all squishy things! How about that?https://www.businessinsider.com/uber-autonomous-driving-unit-used-strange-term-for-people-and-animals-2018-11Employees in Uber's self-driving unit have referred to a human and … -
Are Uber and Lyft making traffic worse?
Some are saying yes: Studies are increasingly clear: Uber and Lyft congest cities I guess this shouldn't come as a …
If those people had all taken public transportation... imagine it. Oh wait, I don't have to, I can just remember 5 years ago before rideshares were a thing, and traffic was more manageable.
But this is just Uber that they investigated, right? I want to know if other rideshare companies have a better record. Does Uber just suck at vetting their drivers, or is this a more general problem?
"He decided that he should apologize privately to Kamel, the driver he berated on video. The plan was simple: meet with Kamel at some neutral and nonthreatening location, engage in five minutes of pleasantries, say sorry, and leave.
The meeting went on for more than an hour, with Kalanick re-debating Kamel over Uber’s pricing policies. Somehow, by the end, Kalanick suggested that he give the driver Uber stock, according to people familiar with the discussion."
OMG, wow. Kalanick was a pr nightmare...
Boston driver here. I would never get on a bike in my city. Terrifying. It's mayhem out there.
Not the onion
Anything to cut down on congestion. I wish they would do this in more places.
Any new technology will have growing pains. This one is particularly bad. But mark my words there will come a day when the idea of humans driving around with no technological assistance will seem absolutely ludicrous.
Sorry. This is absurd. It was Uber's car. They need to be held accountable.
Oh for crying out loud, is block chain the answer to everything? I think people are going a little overboard with this idea. blockchain this blockchain that.
That would never fly in some places. Like, America, where half the population views taxation as theft, and public spending is a huge taboo.
Elon Musk is working on it :)
Yet here you are commenting on a rideshare website. I'm gonna assume you've taken an uber or two in your time :)
As with the previous drivers, this driver was asked if it was okay that they did not have a child car restraint.
"Yeah, that's no problem. Just hang on to (the baby) tight," he said.
Uhhhhhhh... yeah "hang on tight" is not going to be much help in an accident... jesus.
But there're two sides to this. And there is an interesting dynamic here since so many drivers work for both Uber and Lyft: If Uber pays their drivers enough more, drivers will be incentivised NOT to take Lyft fares anymore. So Uber can theoretically starve Lyft from the other end, too. With Uber's clout they might actually be able to pull that off, but it would take someone with some serious cojones to gamble on it.
Yes please. I want my own car where I can dump empty mountain dew cans and pizza boxes and not have to worry about getting a cleaning fee for it.
I'm all for rideshare companies using self driving cars but come on.
You're right that they can't be making money, but they're not at a point where they're trying to make money. They're trying to get big. Money comes later through volume. My point is just that they should be more popular at this point.
I wonder this about companies like fasten too. Cheaper, no surge pricing, they should take off.
Oh god just what we need, a bunch of grandpas driving us around.
You and the farting guy from the other thread should get togehter.
London has a long history of private illegal cabs anyways. What's the difference.
