DC taxi rule overhaul could cut some regulations in age of Uber, Lyft
Interesting, but it's about seven years too late...https://wtop.com/dc-transit/2020/01/d-c-taxi-rule-overhaul-could-cut-some-regulations-in-age-of-uber-lyft/ -

CNN investigation: 103 Uber drivers accused of sexual assault or abuse
Not good. Not good for Uber, and certainly not good for these poor victims. http://money.cnn.com/2018/04/30/technology/uber-driver-sexual-assault/index.html -

Deadly Uber crash due to medical emergency?
Does anyone know anything more about this? Heart attack or what? https://www.ajc.com/news/local/deadly-uber-crash-leaves-injured-passenger-mother-with-questions/dFTXohYdohCBkBFURzPMUK/
Traffic in NYC has definitely gotten considerably worse since Uber took off. No question about it. I have wondered whether a congenstion charge like London has could ever work in a US city, and I think it would be tough. So maybe this is the answer, to just surcharge rideshares instead. Should taxis be included? I don't know. That's a tough one. I think they have reason to complain about it but I doubt it will make any difference.
Yikes. You hear about things like this... and it's like, what could this guy have done? Watch the video. These two kids are sociopaths.
Yeah but you gotta pay for them then 😆
Breaking in front of a green light. That's a good one. I can kind of understand it if it's yellow already, but green? No way. Green means GO.
Another one: people that inch up behind you and a red light... again and again the whole time it's red. Like I'm gonna go sooner because they got a little closer. Those two inches aren't going to gain you much time buddy. And then the SECOND it turns green, they honk at you. Give me a break...
I totally agree. Front seat is just bad. Rear driver side is creepy AF. I always have a fear that I am going to get garrotted with a piece of piano wire when someone sits alone directly behind me (what does that say about me).
Rear passenger side is the sweet spot. It is possible to have small talk with the driver side from there but does not feel required. And I can see them easily.
Remember when Travis Kalanick was videoed ranting to his driver. That was funny.
"Alexa, take me to..."
Amazon sure is getting clever with their alexa marketing.
Mostly because no one born in the last 40 years will know what you are talking about 😂
Yeah I could see it working. Big job but definitely possible.
Maybe I'll buy a little just for fun. I don't think it's something to put all your eggs in. Early/institutional investors might get a sweet bump on day 1 but the rest of us who don't have access to the IPO need to think about it as a long-term investment. Uber already has the market saturated so growth will be hard fought for them. Lyft's growth kinda depends on stealing market share from Uber, which will be very expensive.
Both of these companies are spending money like drunken sailors and that is not going to stop anytime soon. It is a brutal battle out there and more competitors are going to be moving in on them. These are not lean companies.
So my advice... buy some for fun if you want once the price settles a bit but don't go crazy, don't spend more than you can afford to lose, and don't expect to fund your retirement with it...
I... I don't think she really gets what Uber is to be honest. I'm not sure how she usually gets around but I doubt her usual vehicle has crumbs on the floor, because she probably pays some guy to keep the car clean.
Uber is for normal people, Martha. Today you stepped in the shoes of a normal person.
Damn. That's dark. Did you just, like, drop her off there? Or did she just want to see it and drive away.
You just gotta grow your own :D
But how would anyone know you are delivering weed, as opposed to just being a dude in a car?
How would someone know you were delivering for eaze though? It's not like you'd have a flashing sign on your car. I hope.
I think you'd be just as likely to be jacked whether you are working for eaze, or just out getting groceries for your family.
They won't know your destination until they accept the ride. You could offer them a big tip to compensate for the ride back...
Yeah. I can definitely understand this.
"Even as we walked drivers so carefully through this series of questions, their self-reported average earnings came in 37.01% higher than their screenshots showed."
Wow. We suck at math I guess. But seriously, that is a really big discrepancy.
The barrier for entry into Uber is lower. So you get more people just doing it part time to make a little extra money on the side. More people who have other jobs. So I think you are right in a way. Uber drivers are a broader spectrum of society than taxi drivers. At least where I am from, taxi drivers have always been a largely immigrant population. Uber drivers seem to be all over the map.
Not saying that's bad or good. Just how it is.
