I got a Uber for my daughter I used my  phone app and my name I fogot to put it under her name so it was tracking his location on my phone. My daughter texted me as soon as she got dropped off  but the driver instead  of ending the ride at the location she gets off he set it for waiting and drove off for six minutes then ended the ride. I think he figured I wasn't there so I wouldn't know what took place at the drop off. Does anyone know how this could accidently happen or was it most likely deliberately done?

When I first started driving I didnt realize my phone wasnt charging. My phone died. Within 2 min I got it on charger and notified Uber that I didnt end trip on time. The response I got back was "the amount charged to rider was still correct they would not need to change it".  I have forgot once or twice since then but its less than a minute after dropping off rider. As LG PA stated we want to end the ride to be able to move on and accept more trips. My app froze once and I couldnt end it but once you close it out and reopen it usually fixes itself. Only takes a few min. Dont think many drivers would take the risk as Uber would most likely find out. I have heard of a driver doing it on their very last day of driving for Uber (dont know how true it is). Even then dont make much sense because you cant accept any new trips.

Happens sometimes to us drivers when dropping off passengers in areas with poor reception. Though we are tapping "Drop off" passenger, the system is not recognizing it due to poor reception, so we drive off a bit to relocate to a better area while keep trying to end the ride, and it continues until we finally are able to end it. As a driver we actually want to end the ride so we can start getting additional requests :) While in your situation it may have been a case of driver trying to make a few buck extra (illegally), there is a chance he was not trying to scam you.

This is a scam drivers can do but they will get in trouble if Uber notices they are doing it multiple times so it is not really all that common. AS LG-PA said we want to end the ride, get our money, and get to the next ride! It could have just been a mistake but either way Uber should reimburse you. Though sorry you will have to deal with Uber's terrible customer service...

I had this same thing happen to me and the driver claimed it was accidental but he drove for another 30 minutes!! Hard to believe it really was an accident but I guess as a driver you could forget to end the ride? I'm not a driver though so I am sure you will get some better answers. FYI: Uber did refund me though.

30 min is no accident, driver would be wondering how come no new pings are coming in and should check.

I also had once an issue in poor reception where I dropped off passenger and could not end the ride, no matter what I did, close out app, reopen, etc. Basically that was my last ride of the night. So poor passenger got charged for me driving with my family to a restaurant to eat, etc. Surely (I hope passenger noticed and called uber to get charge taken off) I also called Uber same night to tell them of their app glitch, such when this happens especially if you want to be driving passengers for the day and system does not let you end current ride, basically taking you out of comission.
