I'm not experienced at this site or really Uber or Lyft in general. If it says 2 or more people and I only have a party of one, how does that work? Do I pay double what is listed? It seems unlikely to me that someone is flying into BWI and needs a ride to Alexandria at the same time I will :-)

You’d be surprised whom you get hitched up with.
Also, remember, it can make multiple stops. You and someone else can be picked up at BWI and then have two drop-offs. That’s still considered as a pool. (And you only pay for your portion of the trip.)
Or you get picked up at BWI and then someone else be picked up elsewhere. The you can make one or two drops.
Uber pool allows 2 riders. So you and a friend are included in the fare. When using pool the riders do not need to be going to exact same place. Just the same direction.
Uber and Lyft charge for the ride not per person. If you are traveling by yourself, you will simply pay the estimated amount you calculated on this site. However, if you choose to travel with friends you can fit others in the car with you to save money!
