Drivers in the UK will face 14 yrs to Life if they kill someone while on their phone. As they should. I see so many distracted drivers out here on their phones texting or holding the phone and talking. Buy a 5.00 dash mount, put it on speaker, connect to blue tooth, or get ear buds. There are plenty of apps to convert speech to text also. I get speech to text isn't perfect but what could you possibly have to say that cant wait until you can pull over? Parents there are really going to need to crack down on their kids using their phones. Educate them early on the dangers. It would definately really suck to have anybody go to jail but imagine your 18 yr old, 22 yr old, etc spending 14 yrs or more in jail? But also imagine a family losing their 2 yr old, 16 yr old, etc... What are your thoughts on this? Too strict or do you agree?
My issue is with Lyft. When declining a ride you have to hit that little X in top corner. Give us a bar to tap or swipe. If you let it time out more than 2/3 X you get nasty threatening messages that you will be deactivated. Having it on the dash mount does make it much easier. Thats why I cant understand why people dont use them.

I wholeheartedly agree. Texting while driving is the new driving. It has been proven that it is just as dangerous. If you are not responsible enough to drive a car without looking at your phone the whole time you should not be able to drive.

Agreed. The crap I see out on the road is so rediculous. Mostly women and younger people on their damn phones leaning against steering wheell on major highway (speed limit is 65mph) both hands textimg. Most mem dont do it because we all know they cant multi task. Lol JK! Men are usually talking on phone and they are just as bad. I've actually ended my night early on 2 occasions because of the horrific car accidents I saw 3,4,& 5 per night (less than 8hrs). A car under a tractor trailer with the whole tol of the car gone. You know those peoples heads were decapitated also. For what? What is so damn important it cant wait? You want to smash your car, injure yourself, or kill yourself go for it but dont take other people with you. Drinking & driving is bad enough (not making it out to be an excuse) but your thought process is off. You damn well know that texting is wrong and your head is clear wth would you chance it?
I don't know about this. 14 years is a damn long time. Killing someone is horrible and distracted driving needs to stop. But will this really stop it? I doubt it.
Make an example of a few. Show the people you are serious. It's worse than drunk driving. Not condoning drunk driving at all. Under the influence just make you stupid and judgement clouded. Texting and driving you know wth you are doing.
But you don't get 14 years for killing someone while driving drunk. At least not in the US. I had a friend who was in that situation. It was a horrible tragedy and completely changed his life. He got 2-4 years. I thought that was light when it happened. but believe me that was enough. He is dry as the sahara now. He doesn't touch alcohol anymore. The guilt is too much.
I do agree that txting/driving is as bad or worse than drunk driving. I just think 14 years is too long. 5-6 years, maybe. tops.
It is very harsh. It is in the UK. I am assuming there will be certain circumstances that would determine how much time you get. Maybe its just a scare tatic? Who knows. Half the things you read you have to question how true they are. Thats why I said in my original post what about the 18 yr old, 22 yr old, or people who are good people that make the mistake of sending a quick text? Does someone really deserve 14 yrs in prison? Then again does your child, mom, dad, sibling deserve to die because someone was careless, irresponsible? I personally think its way to much time. However they really need to make very strict laws and hefty fines to stop people from distracted driving. I see it everyday. These drivers are so easy to spot. Unfortunately most are probably not caught until they cause an accident. Phones should lock up text mode when in a car unless you are using speech to text app. If there was a law here like that I sure as hell would not be texting. I am guilty of sending a 2/5 word text while sitting at a red light at times. If I am moving I pull over or in most instances the person can wait.
Yeah this is really harsh. If this gets you 14 years, what does actual murder get you?? It's good that they are taking texting+driving seriously but wow, 14 years... (or more!)
I absolutely agree with 14+ years in prison for killing someone while on your phone.
I actually think that in addition to this, getting caught texting while driving should carry a mandatory instant 90 day drivers license suspension + required SR22 insurance.

Texting and driving is worse than DUI, it's ridiculous that the laws are not heavily enforced. Start writing $1000 tickets, it will go away real fast.
