It's a way to motivate drivers and also to provide feedback.
"Kudos" are similar to Uber Badges. It's a way for passengers to provide feedback to the drivers by pointing things out that were great about the trip. They do not affect their ratings or compensation, but the below is the type of dashboard they see.
As you can see, passengers can specify certain good aspects about the driver, such as "Great Music", and "Cleanliness." What do they mean for the drivers? I won't speak on their behalf...

Yup, means nothing. It is a gold star for the day. Might make me smile at the end of the day but I know when a passeneger and I had a great conversation. Just saying.
They don't do jack. It's like a mom telling me I did a good job.
but that's the thing. It has a huge impact on the child's mind and psyche. Psychological proven. It makes them more motivated and happy, etc. etc.
Yep, I am drawing a parallelism here. Lyft is your mommy.
