This is in Chicago. Passengers mistakenly think they’re getting into a ride ordered from a rideshare company like Lyft or Uber, but once they’re in the vehicle, the driver and passenger demand cash and personal belongings.

uber gives the passengers the make and model of the car, the license plate, and a picture of the driver. How stupid can some people be?
I HOPE they were the tightwads passengers who do not tip.
Did she have a cool Uber Beacon?
Anyone can buy them on eBay for $70 or somethng. Same with the Lyft one.
Yes, the starving drivers are selling them off.
Oh my lord. $70? That’s insane.
Many of those "starving" drivers don't care to promote the companies that rip us off. It may not be much. but it's some extra cash to make up for the losses we take.
Uber beacon and Lyft amp are the calling cards of rideshare noobs.
100% agreed on how they are primarily for self promotion by Uber and Lyft. Does it help riders identify us better? I guess, but I am not sure if it really made any difference as people use license plate anyways. it also wont' work as a crime prevention because anyone can have these lights. In fact, crooks can have a hayday picking up random passengers who think it's legit car.
BTW, these things are requied in Boston. You have to have them displayed at all times. Not sure who will ever enforce it though. Passengers? LOL.
The airport cops can bust you for not having them.
The funny thing? Thoes same cops use them to identify you as uber drivers to bust you if they catch you picking up at non-designated areas. So it's like those signs are a target on our backs.
I am confused by all of this, btw. I am just a regular dude picking up regular people just as a person would pick up a family member. Why do I have to be treated differently?
Trade dress is required, not a Lyft amp or Uber beacon.
Good point. Stickers and stuff
