Uber acquires bike sharing company

Guilty of assault? Wanna drive for Uber? No problem, as long as it was eight years ago...
Is it just me or is this a bit lax. "The paper reports that Bivines was charged with assault in …
What a logical perspective lol. So it's really a charitable move.
The thing is, if someone tried an "uber for liquor", without a license, there is no way they'd get away with it. They'd get shut down immediately by the city. No question about it. Yet these same cities let Uber come in and operate unregulated for so long. Maybe you are right that they screwed up the medallion system to begin with, but they also really screwed up by not protecting the taxi industry when they should have. They should never have let uber run rampant. They were way too slow to react, and they still haven't, and now Uber is powerful enough that they never will. The amazing thing is that that seems to be universal. There is no city that I know of that actually responded to Uber's appearance on the scene, at all. just a complete clusterfk.
Didn't see that ending coming
They changed the executive staff, but the rest of the company is the same old people as pre-Dara days. So I don't really know why anyone would expect the culture to have changed. People form a culture, not a handful of executives.
I mean, the gig worker industry is like, what, 7 years old, maybe? Not exactly saying much...
But I am glad it got as much press as it did. Hope it helps. If a bunch of drivers hang up their keys it will help us all.
The strike is only set to officially take place in a few major cities... I don't think anyone will look at you sideways for driving in Plattsburgh.
Meh. I don't think a voluntary strike like this will ever work. With real unions they can enforce it but this isn't a real union, it's just an organization. On Wednesday, some drivers will strike, and others will drive just to sweep up the easy pickings. If enough drivers strike, surge will be high in a lot of places. Plenty of drivers will be out, I predict.
Driver is pro-life, except for people he doesn't like. They can die on the side of the road thank you very much.
Welcome to Gilead, enjoy your stay.
It's a scary time to be an American.
STOP THE PRESSES. SOMEBODY AT UBER HAS A HEART!!
So every time I ride one I'm gonna have to blow into a tube that a dozen other people have blown into that day?
No thanks. I'll go with the one I don't have to blow first.
It's sustainable. They just have to charge more for them. People would pay.
Of course, they can't do that, because they have competition. And the competition has rabid, greedy investors just like they do, who will keep shoveling cash into them in the vain hope of "winning" someday.
Good luck guys!
Well, yeah, when you buy a company that is hemorraging money, that's what should happen... Don't buy into the Silicon Valley hype. use your head.
Good job. These are "companies" that literally only lose money. Where I come from that is called a "scam".
Buying into this industry is CRAZY. None of these companies are profitable. They may never be. Put your money somewhere sensible.
But you opened it. Would you have opened a thread with a boring title like you suggested? I think this guy is a marketing genius.
It seems like you figured it out ok.
Wait, is this LA or Paris? I'm confused. 😆
I once had a guy who I swear to god must have just crapped his pants before he got in my car. I cannot explain the smell otherwise. It was so bad I was rethinking all my life choices during that ride. I'm not even joking. I stuck it out since it was a short ride and I was too polite then to say anything but I did open my window all the way. If it was winter it would have been tough. I was relieved the back seat was not messed up afterwards.
But you are right those smells can linger and linger and in our business you can't have a smelly car.
If I got someone like that again I would probably ask him to get out (if in a safe area). We DO have the right to refuse service for a case like this IMO. Think of a restaurant. They can absolutely ask someone to leave if they are disrupting other customers meals in whatever way. Since the smell sticks around this guy was disrupting your future pax.
They burned through $20M a month and got no self driving car out of it.
I burn through a couple thousand bucks a month, and get no self driving car out of it.
Therefore, I am a business genius.
