Are Uber drivers known to keep the meter running (after the ride)? Do they? and how?
The Guru Take
The GPS and the "Complete Trip" button
No, Uber drivers are not known to keep the meter running after the trip. This is primarily due to the fact that every ride is tracked and recorded, complete with the route captured by GPS.
Just so everyone is aware, theoretically, the driver can easily NOT click on "Complete a Trip" button upon your jumping off. Then the drive can continue to drive and incur more cost.

This did happen to me. We canceled the last part of a multi trip ride and the driver said he would just cancel it on his end and “end” the ride.
By the time I got settled I realized he kept the meter on for about 25 minutes after drop off.
Uber customer support was very unsupportive and kept spitting out generic responses no matter what I asked.
Felt cheated, and jumped ship to Lyft instead due to poor customer support.
25 MINUTES?! Did he think he would get away with that? I wonder if, to not make it as obvious, he just sat there and incurred the duration cost, rather than driving around and making the map look different.
Oh, yeah, Uber's support is the worst. All generic responses that go nowhere. (literally, you often circle back and start receiving same responses you have already received prior) You can't even call them.
Yep, this happened to me as well. I got Uber to refund the difference though, you just have to keep emailing them over and over and over. Such a pain! I don't use rideshares much anymore.
