My house is in a deadzone and some cell phone carriers have difficult time connecting. I just had a driver who complained and told me he couldn't end the trip. Is that really how it works? How can this be?
Can the driver complete and end the ride if he has no cell phone signal?
The Guru Take
Without signal, the driver cannot complete a ride.
Your driver was not lying. The Uber driver cannot complete the ride if his phone does not have a cell phone signal. He can attempt to, but it will not take effect until he gets to an area where there is signal. Unfortunately, in this case, you will be charged until the the ride is officially completed.
The similar is true when the driver's phone battery dies. The ride will never be completed until the phone is back online.
If this is an recurring problem, here's a tip. If your driver doesn't have signal, but if you do (or you are now on your home WiFi), you can cancel the ride from within the Uber app. This will effectively end the ride, and your driver will be paid fully.

WHAT, this is fascinating? how do the drivers survivie who drive in the boonies? Any upstate NY drivers on here? I need answers...
haha, I am from upstate new york... our cell towers are great. the really desolate areas do not have rideshares (yet).
Who doesn't have cell signal in this day and age?
This can happe in hilly areas betwee mountains, say around Los Angeles ad San Bernardino areas.
Don't lie. we all know you've complained about low signal. We all have and we always will.
plus there are deadpots everywhere.
That's a great tip for the rider to cancel it. Assuming the rider has Internet.
