The cancellation fee is shared with Uber.

I thought the full $5 cancellation fee goes to the driver?

Check your pay when you get a cancellation. Uber takes 25% of $5 leaving you$3.75.

That's bs. I thought it was to compensate for our lost time. Why is Uber get a cut of a failed ride/transaction?

I have a 4.9 and I cancel rides occasionally. Couple pieces of advice that you might not think of are to close your Uber doors softly (driver's hate having their doors "slammed"), avoid talking on your cellphone, don't bring anything smelly (food, too much perfume, etc) into the car!

Talking on the cell phone?  That's what I do on every Uber trip, when I'm taking one alone. That's just what I do...

If you are alone, then I see no problem with talking on the phone. It should not be a loud distracting conversation.

If you are in an UberPool then I agree that it is really rude.

A lot of people do it but it is incredibly rude. Poor Uber driver just has to sit there and listen to your conversation. If I was a driver, I would definitely rate people lower for doing this.

So they'd rather sit there in silence?  I'm not obligated to talk to them and I don't think the drivers care if I talked to them.

Those people on the phones are customers who are paying to be a bit more product.  I think they should be able to call them during the time they bought.

i heard that uber made it impossible to change ratings, so maybe a driver gave you a bad rating on accident and couldn't change what he/she put

No, not anymore.  At least driver ratings.  Not sure about rider ratings.

Thank you for the answer. My rating is 4.6, which seems pretty low to me. Hopefully I can get it higher, because I'm afraid that some drivers may not accept my ride requests in the future. Thanks again!

Your ratings don't matter that much for passengers. You still are presented to the closest driver. That's a myth that you won't get rides if your ratings are low.  Plenty of drivers are out there.

They will always be happy to take your money.
