Hello,
I'm a frequent Uber rider in the Tucson, AZ area. I use the service several times per month (worldwide), and have for a few years. I love the service overall. I'm also 100% Uber - I haven't used Lyft to date.
When the app started making rider ratings viewable to the rider, I recall being in the 4.94-4.96 range. I was happy about this, and wanted to try to do even better! I read all the tips on the Uber app and several forums with driver perspectives and feedback. I always meet the driver (she/he never has to wait on me) at pick-up, will text them if they are circling/having trouble finding me, don't slam the car door, am never argumentative or on my phone the whole time, and attempt to make pleasant small-talk with the drivers during the ride. However, despite all this, my rating has fallen to 4.90.
Perhaps I'm too much in the margin (0.05), but do other riders see their passenger scores falling as well? I'm especially miffed because I am trying harder to be a better rider now, but getting a lower score. I'm curious if others are seeing this, or driver perspectives on the matter. I can tell you that my emotional reaction is to be picky back, which I don't think is good for riders, drivers, or Uber in general.
Keen to others thoughts! Thanks and cheers to all.
Regards,
Joe

Never knew that passengers cared so much about their rider ratings. Once you lose the 5, it's almost impossible to get it back as a driver or a passenger. I wouldn't worry too much about it 😆
Yeah I mean math says if a driver gives you a 4 (or lower) it takes a lot of 5 ratings to get back to where you were. it is really hard to get it back. You probably just had a couple a-hole drivers who didn't like you for whatever reason or were just having a bad day.
Uber's rating system is horrible. It's not your fault.. I wouldn't worry about it.
Do you tip?
I do, depending on the quality of service. My understanding though is that it shouldn't matter; while the rider has some time before completing the rating process (at her/his convenience), the driver must complete the rating before searching for the next ride. As such, the driver should have to rate right away without the benefit of waiting and seeing if the rider has left a tip or not. Is it your understanding that it works differently?
There are really rude drivers out there that will rate under 5 stars if they think they are not getting a tip. I dont agree with these drivers and feel they are wrong. Riders have up to 30 days to tip. I see drivers complaining and giving less than 5 stars for not tipping cash. Again I disagree with those drivers. I think Uber and Lyft have used up their decent driver pool and scraping the barrel. Uber should give drivers 24 hrs to rate their passengers. Dont stress over the ratings. Your rating is still higher than most. I do get how you feel. As a driver it does get annoying when you have no idea what you did to get rated less than 5 stars.
Yes what you say is true on Uber. On Lyft drivers can rate pax later. I just re-read and saw that you use Uber only so it's probably not that. But like other people said it's really hard to get back ratings once a few people rate you down for whatever reason.
