Looks at you with wide, drugged out looking eyes and refuses to put on his seat belt. UGH! This happened a few days ago.
Yeah, I hate the pretend-surprised smug look on those people. Usually from the suits who think they are important.
Not sure why they find it annoying to be told to be safe. It's something that can save lives.
Do you insist or even just ask them to put seatbelts on? I've been driving for a long time, and I no longer bother. I don't know if this is a privilege thing or just people being rebellious, but so many don't, and they act like it's their absolute birthright. I would rather for safety (come on, it's stupid not to), but they aren't my kids and it isn't my responsibility.
There was a thread on this recently. Most seem to think we (drivers) aren't even liable.
Thank you for the info. Interesting... Regarding my car, yes. I do insist because it's a Florida state law that passengers 18 years old and older must wear a seatbelt if they are sitting in the front seat. And of course we have car seat / seat belt laws for children on the books also. Most people comply, I find. There's no law about people 18 years or older in the back seat being required to wear a seatbelt so if this happens again I will insist that the passenger in the front seat get into the backseat. If they refuse I will ask them to leave my car and cancel the ride. Better safe and not liable... than sorry.
Seatbelt laws are determined at the state level, so you are right that you should be paying attention to your own state's laws for sure.
Front seat passengers all must wear seatbelts in all states (including DC) except in New Hampshire. ("Live free or die!") My passengers 95% of the time sit in the back, but I suppose I should be worried about people who sit in the front. (Usually when there are more than 3 people in a group.)
However, the more important questions are a) whether the police can pull you over for that reason alone and b) who gets the tickets. That's different in every state too.
Asking you to drive a different way then the GPS is suggesting. It never ends well.
So I figured this out. well, one pax told me. It's in the psychology of people who have their guards up. People who are afraid to get taken for a ride.
They do that to prove you know the roads, so they want to sound all smart.
Dog or Pets or Children that were not disclosed when the ride was requested.
People who change the destination upon hopping on ARE ALWAYS RED FLAGS.
For new drivers. Always ask the pax to update the destination in the app. Never take their word for it.
Not so much a flag but BO - body odor.
You know what though? us drivers often know if it's a passenger from hell or not pretty quick. It's the attitude they give immediately after getting in the car. or it even happens before the trip over the phone.
It's like sixth sense. We just know.
Sits directly behind me in the car. I never like that, seems sketchy.
Says something ignorant/racist
Slams car door
Tells me she is late and that I need to step on it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I am sure you say that all the time. The world revolves around you. Why should I risk my $15/hour job so you can make up for the time spending grabbing that latte.
