Remember this mantra of being an Uber driver:
You make money by driving the rush or driving the drunks.
So, as an Uber driver, I've done a similar math. You often go into it without thinking much, but eventually you get to that inflection point where you ask, "is this really making me money?"
..and I can tell that your friend is an actual driver. Some of the things he captured definitely is coming from someone who's asked the question.
With that said, I will argue two of the points:
So are you proposing changing the business model as you say or are you basically saying raise the price so drivers start making some money?
There's that mention of minimum wage again. I'm too afraid to do the math. I think I'm doing ok so far but then again I use a new car which makes me wonder I will get dinged on th depreciation the hardest.
I drive an XL. I don't mind these passengers. I just put in a request with Uber and they bump up the price. No problem.
Oh, sorry. I guess it sucks for UberX drivers... I am so insensitive.
Yeah, I mean...dudes probably work nights and eary mornings like on the weekends where it may not be safe but there's the most opportunity.
Gotta consider the fulltime vs. part-time aspect too. Experienced drivers who are full-time make WAY more money per hour.
Like this?
Yeah, Uber listed the weirdest lost items list, and that was hilarous. It had stuff like Tax Returns and Red Cape.
My life hasn't been nearly that interesting. I have heard of people picking up $1M Stradivarius violin but not me. I do regularly find like party hats, sunglasses (like those shaped with numbers, like 2018), beads, etc.
Everyone has his price. It sounds like your is 101x surge and TWO steak dinners. LOL.
I put on 43,000 miles on my Ford last year. My brand new Ford. It's a good thing my insurance company doesn't know, beacuse they'd know immediately I am driving for something no good. ..or Uber. LOL.
I'd be happy to babysit if the the surge is pegged at 2.5x. UberKIDS anyone?
ain't that the truth.
They can't. have to be 18 to use Uber.
Probably just UBR or UBER. They aren't that creative.
The question is how much are they paying.
Yes, but not on cabs
but you can pay more for the ads/free freemium version of Ubers. :)
Buddy. You can make all kind of arguments around tecnicality and semantics, but at the end of the day, the insurance companies and their underwriters can put any clause and conditions on your policy. If it says you can't drive for Uber, you can't. They major risk in various ways, and they dont' have to cover you if they don't want to...for whatever reason. (except for protected classes like race, sex, etc.)
VuGo. In-vehicle video ads. Genius.
Stop with the games. Just pay the drivers for all miles and minutes driven. Long pickup fees? Why so many rules?
Let's be real here. The moment a person requests for a driver, the car goes on a clock. It's been "hired." The users can figure out whether they want to pay or not.
Drivers should be paid for the time they are hired. They do this with limousines and stuff. and it will simplify so much from the rivers' perspective. and they wouldn't have to take risks on how much they drive for pickups, and cancellations, etc
Amen.
I wouldn't get that fixed. So bad ass.
See, you have to understand that the line moves fast when big flights come in. So there may be 10~15 in front of you ,but when a big plane arrives, those can go in 10 minutes. Then between the flights, you have no activities.
If it's moving in a healthy fashion and also at big airports, maybe 1 car would go every 1~2 minutes on average? So do the math from there.
