Remember this mantra of being an Uber driver:
You make money by driving the rush or driving the drunks.
Simple. Drunk ones. I guess that isn't so much a pet peeve. Every driver hates that. Nothing but trouble. and singing. ha.
What about those who get car sick? Maybe those who make out?
What about passengers who have way too high of an expectation. Like people who gave me 40star because I didn't have an aux cable.
Cool. I recently spoke to someone who asked me the same thing.
The basic concepts are the same, and some of the same tips apply. Don't chase fares, stay put in populated areas, and look out for transportation hubs like train stations and airports.
Every city big and small have transportation hubs, whether it's a train station or a bus stop. Target those areas and branch out depending on how busy those locations are.
Then look for restaurants, bars, and strip malls. Every town has that.
Gosh, everyone is so dry about this. We are dealing with people, folks!
It's all about the communication. As long as the customer keeps me abreast of what's going on, I will wait a pretty while even beyond the five.
Heres a tip for other drivers. If the pax is running late, ask them where they're going. If they're going far and it is a lucrative trip, wait longer. If it's five minutes, hang up and cancel.
My favorite line:
"Cheers""I don't normally drink and drive, but I kind of have to in this line of work. It's from a box.'
Uber offers me minimum $50 for football pickups. This is Gillete - Pariots in New England.
Then again, that's just the "minimum" not a bonus. Usually, those pickups take so long that we hit those minimum anyways. Giellete is so far out in the booniesi ithat all rides will be more than $50.
Oh yeah, this is the worst. and it's impossible to communicate to the passengers too. It's happening too fast, and I can't wave them over to a different location.
I have leaned over to tell them to meet my "over threre!" but it never works. They are always like "no, I will get on quick." or "why aren't you picking me up, you a-hole."
sigh...the life of a driver.
Minivans are awesome for UberX. They has great gas mileage and they qualify for UberXL where you can earn more money. They are WIN-WIN....however, not many are around for some reason.
Drivers cannot kill the notifications. They are very critical in making sure we are getting all the pings from the apps, such as ride requests and sudden cancellations, etc. This is exceptionally true if we use a different GPS than the one provided in the Lyft/Uber app, because this means we are outside of their app while driving.
It's a pretty sweet site actually. check out these pics

Oh, it's all sold out. Popular magazine...
can you post or paste that text down there? I wanna read
Amen, brotha. Just do the right thing.
Yeah I was also thinking it was for the cancellation fee. @Kabe has a good point though. It might have been trying to hold his spot on the airport queue.
Oh, that's what that is? I thought it was just a way for the insurance companies to barge you more money.
I guess it is, because they're supposed to covering me for all legs, at least all legs when I'm not driving customers.
Yeah, but in regards to the kids thing, you just want to make sure you are covered for when you are with the kids, right?
Other times, your personal polcy should cover you. (And yes I know there's a gray area when you are on the way to the pickup.)
Zemcar is available. I'm pretty sure it started here.
It says they pay 1.5x to 2.0x more than Uber
https://www.zemcar.com/driver
No, if they did that, it would have charged you the flagdrop.
That is a weird looking ride. Maybe the driver called Uber?
In Florida, does the insurance follow the vehicle or th driver? If it follows the driver like it does in Massachusetts and you have an auto insurance of your own, your auto insurance will cover and pay for that damage. (Your shop is right. In many states, there is no deductible for glass.)
If it follows the car, you maybe out of luck. Lyft obviously has an insurance on the car you are renting from them. However, they may not exercise their policy for the damage you caused. This is where you need to start reading the fine print and the rental agreement.
Did you get charged a "no show" fee? I assume after all the back-and-forth, it was way after 5 minutes. If the guy showed up at MIA and then cancelled, he could have easily charged you $5.00.
Uber does pay tolls for cancelled trips. Don't worry.
I would imagine it was a glitch where the toll wasn't calculated yet. Maybe you didn't get through the bridge enough.
...or perhaps the girl cancelled it way before it actually dropped the pin.
As a driver, your actions are limited. People who are saying, "use your wearpon that you have stashed" are idiots.
Really the only option you have is to slam on the brakes real hard. Then speed up again.
If the guy is in the front seat, see if you can unstrap his seatbelt, and then crash into a tree. Your car may be totaled, but at least you tossed him out the front windshield.
If the attempts fail, just blame the nerves and act innocent. Give him the wallet then, if the guy is still conscious.
Yes, I believe that's correct. In Massachusetts, I've gotten tickets at tollbooths.
Before you judge me, it was my transponder (EZ Pass) that failed to work. They negated my ticket right away.
