Taxi Driver - Boston
398 DriverI've been a taxi driver for 20+ years now. Been in Boston the whole time. I'd like to think I have open mind and am not against signing up for Uber. Just haven't had the chance yet. Oh, I don't own a car, so how do I do that?

Imagine the steps it takes.
- You see the request comes up. You accept.
- You drive to the restaurant.
- You find a parking spot.
- You walk inside the restaurant.
- You wait until the hostess can approach you.
- You wait until the food comes out.
- You walk back to the car.
- You drive to your destination.<-------------------The time you make money.
- You arrive then look for a parking spot.
- You walk to the address.
- You knock and wait at the door.
- You hand over the food
Tell me how this is worth it.
They can't as easily influence law makers in Asia because they don't have nearly as much political leverage. In US, they are lobbyists. There, Uber is the evail American corporation.

Even the one from Demolition Man has doors.
Doors are for wimps.
Not for nothing Uber and the city of Orlando has had some rocky relationships in the past. The city arrested some drivers, fined them, and forced some fees. Not sure if they ever figured that out.
I haven't read the MIT study, but does it assume the rideshare cars are constantly utilized? I feel like there's some fuzzy math going on here.
How do you lose a pho?
What is this. Some highschool drama? Uber when they don't get something they just whine, while swining their money around, until they get what they want.
Lyft will almost definitely follow suit. They have to! but that's all part of Uber's plan! to make Lyft lose just as much as money as they are. The one will the deeper pocket will win!
the whole frickin' point is the convenience, and NOT having a wallet. Why tip?
The Lyft app I hear has the tipping option. I guess in that case, it is still convenient...?
Oh, gosh. I am from boston.
and what's up with Gronk's pic?
Again? How can they go any lower. This will pretty much gurantee that people will be back driving taxis. (this is nyc0
Oh, man. Sorry to hear that. I have an experience around this. I believe the law is different in each state, so you may want to talk to someone in your neighborhood, maybe other drivers. Where are you from?
So, in my situation, I hit someone with a car door open at Union Station. I already picked up my fare and was going about 20 mph, where a business man passenger swung the door open wide and I hit his door. The officer showed up, I gave my version of the story, but I was later found guilty...at least according to the insurance companies. The other side's claim was that his car was stationary and legally parked. They even mentioned that I did not exercise enough caution and taht I may have been speeding. (total bs) I know you don't want to hear this, but that was my experience over 10 years ago.
Who is the target audience? The drivers? or people? I mean passengers.
What? sp?
BTW. and people should know this. New York Yellow cabs have been reducing the lease prices (how much it takes for a driver to rent a cab) for a few years now. They just reduced it recently to unprecedented levels.
Taxi drivers AND Uber drivers are GETTING PINCHED!!
If what Uber is claiming is correct, i.e. "we are now making profits!", they should start raising the rates, no?

Why does this pic look like it was taken in the 70s? If it weren't for the iPhone on the dash, I wouldn't have believed it was Uber.
