Taxi Driver - Boston
398 DriverI've been a taxi driver for 20+ years now. Been in Boston the whole time. I'd like to think I have open mind and am not against signing up for Uber. Just haven't had the chance yet. Oh, I don't own a car, so how do I do that?

Imagine the steps it takes.
- You see the request comes up. You accept.
- You drive to the restaurant.
- You find a parking spot.
- You walk inside the restaurant.
- You wait until the hostess can approach you.
- You wait until the food comes out.
- You walk back to the car.
- You drive to your destination.<-------------------The time you make money.
- You arrive then look for a parking spot.
- You walk to the address.
- You knock and wait at the door.
- You hand over the food
Tell me how this is worth it.
Cool idea. I've missed that cash cab show. Great call to bring it back to uber.
...or could it be that all new drivers have 5 star ratings? Flawless record means more fares?
DRAIN THE SWAMP!!!
Just for the record, this didnt' happen to me. This is a blog I found.
So the premise of this post is that a talkative Uber driver is awful! Poor talkative Uber drivers!
For the record, I would. 24 hours is a long time to get somewhere though... but for the price of airfare these days?
I've always wodered this. How does Uber and Lyft assure that there will be cars in these locations? I just heard Lyft brag about how they've brought their average response time down to 3 minutes in Chicago. ...but how do they make sure drivers are distributed well?
That's the whole point of it, right? Keep that supply available when the demand is high.
No doubt the market will re-adjust and re-normalize. We are currently at a very disruptive rough patch, but eventuay capitalism will rebalance the whole industry. IMO
I was speaking to a driver friend of mine (Yellow in NYC), and he told me that many of his friends are coming back to driving the Yellow cabs, because due to the price war between Uber, Lyft, Juno, Hailo, etc., the payout is now DEFINITELY LOWER than driving Yellow cabs. The drivers will go to where the money is.
Sure, man. Why don't you go start your own all-men or all-black rideshare company.
but what about when you have to go hang out with your grandma in the suburbs?
They have eye liners?
USA Today? Those metal mind teaser puzzles? Anything to pass the time.
Corruptions. Tax evasions. It certainly caught up to him.
The irony is that the 362 medallions that's in question (secretly passed on to his family) are worth next to nothing. Not sure how to feel about this whole picture.
Did not know this.
The Metro in Washington DC too.

"We have to be the ones to point out that there is a dinosaue behind the fence." Obviously referring to Jurassic Park. Pretty funny.
No frickin' way I am being strapped to a drone, with my feet dangling and being "delivered" to different locations. What the heck is semi-authomous anyways? It'd probably take off while I am still struggling with these straps.
Wait, isn't this what the jetpacks are for? Whatever happened to those?
How would this ever take off? Private jets?
A bit confused by the title. For one, how can you try to be "taken advantage of." If you try, you aren't being taken advantage of?
While your logic is correct, the reality is a bit different. Your 4-star rating is hurting the pretty decent drivers. You know they get suspended for having like 4.25 rating.
