I've heard stories in the news, but just wanted to know if anyone here experienced this before. I'm very curious to know. And how I can avoid this happening please!
has anyone ever been scammed by a fake uber driver?
The Guru Take
How to Avoid Fake Uber Drivers
We wrote an article with some tips on how to avoid being scammed! Check it out: https://ride.guru/content/newsroom/tips-to-avoid-being-scammed-by-uber-impersonators.
Some key takeaways:
1. If traveling with a group, have one person who is not intoxicated be in charge of requesting and finding the Uber car.
2. Check the make and model of the car before getting in, along with the license plate!
3. Look at the name and picture of your driver on your app and make sure they match the driver in the car.
4. Call or text the driver beforehand to find an exact meeting spot (at a certain intersection, road, or in front of a specific storefront) so you can easily find the car.
5. Before getting in, ask the driver to repeat your name.

Just check the license plate.
I live in the city, and it's already hard to identify a driver. I automatically look for license plate, not for preventing scams, but just to find them
Imposters are scary. You can get robbed or even attacked if you are a woman.
I have heard that this happens a lot in some countries. They pick up tourists this way, and once at the destination or during the trip when you notice, they would demand absurd payments.
also check your trip receipts to make sure everything is as you would expect it. you never know what they are capable of these days
Just BE SMART!!
one time i watched my uber car drive away with someone else in it. i tried to warn them! ...
Great answer! Thank you for the help.
This happens daily in Manhattan where limos will just pick up a passenger for cash. They've always done this and they'll continue to do it
woah reallyl! That has never happened to me.. im assuming it's expensive though?
always check the license plate!!! even if the car looks similar. there are a lot of toyota camry's on the road!
I haven't, but I've almost accidentally gotten in the wrong car! The driver told me I was wrong though, and didn't try to scam me.
This happens all the time. Be careful!
