How can I report and sue for damage the Uber driver who cancelled my ride? I had a scheduled ride, the driver was near, and never came through. After whining for 20 minutes, he cancelled, making me late to

It's understandable people can make choices as independent contractors however being stranded at 1 or 2 in the morning at an unfamiliar City trying to make an airplane and the driver just literally heads off in the opposite direction for 20 minutes and then cancels the ride has not happened once or twice but it happens about 20% of the times as a traveler across the country I cannot tell you how many times I've been left Stranded by incompetent drivers who just cancel for no reason or if you see a better opportunity and take it I cannot tell you how many times I stayed up walking the streets unable to find a open hotel at 3 and 4 in the morning I have several layovers because I take airplanes that I will sometimes have to spend several hours in the city and will take rides but now I just stay in the airport because I can no longer trust any Uber or Lyft to get me where I am going I used to spend 400 to $500 a month on these rides to occupy time I will certainly never enjoy these ride Services again thanks to their high quality Staffing

I never take Uber anymore. This may be the downfall of rideshare services.

I exclusively take taxis for airport trips now. Why would I walk all the way to specified rideshare locations where the taxicabs are waiting in queue right in front of the terminal?  Why would I pay for surges and larger cars if taxi queues already have minivans? (often for the same price)

I am not seeing any advantages anymore. Regulated prices of taxis is comforting to be honest.

Have you been following the fiasco in California lately? After all the legal discussions, Uber decided to grant drivers with a lot of flexibility, like being able to see the destination, an ability to specify their own prices, no more upfront pricing, etc. Guess what happened?

Many ride requests were simply not being accepted by ANY driver, more than 70% of the rides were being cancelled. The drivers were cherry picking and kept saying NO until they got what they wanted.  (Whether it was the price or destination, if they didn't like it, they'd cancel.)

This is exactly why we cannot have nice things.

You need to define "whining".  Why didn't you just cancel and request another car that was close by?  Why did you allow 20 minutes to pass?  Please explain "whining"... did he have a "reason" for not picking you up?  Sue for what????  Making you late???  LOL... seriously, scheduling in advance doesn't commit any driver to you.  Scheduling in advance simply means that at the given time, the computer will hail the closest driver to come to you.  If for some reason that driver chooses to cancel, that is their option.  I would hope they had a good reason, but whether they did or not is inconsequential.  They are private contractors, and they DON'T HAVE TO GIVE YOU A RIDE!!!

How was he whining?  Did you call him, or did he contact you?  He's not legally obligated to rive you a ride, and if your meeting was that important, you should have arranged more reliable transportation.

If we're going to start suing for being "unreliable," I'm going to go back and find all the passengers who promised to tip me and never did.

This is it.  Now I am convinced all riders are self-centered crazies.

Can we require every citizen to work in the customer handling business at least once in their life time?

I think that's a brilliant idea, but the issue here is an entitlement and the outbound blame this person projects.  Some people just can never admit their own faults and try to blame others for all their own problems.

If you were late?  by 20 minutes?  Maybe you should have woken up 20 mintues earlier that morning.

Happens all the time - there are many bad drivers and scammers out there. Just happened to me - waited for the driver to pick me up and he deliberately parked 20 miles away and forced me to cancel since this was an airport ride and I had to act fast.

Wasn't there an article about some dude who missed his mother's funeral on Southwest Airlines?  He got his ticket cancelled on the way to see his dying mother.  I forgot if he made it or not.

You can't sue unless you can prove quantifiable damage.  Not just because you feel like crap and embarassed yourself.

The driver wouldn't be liable anyways. Unless it was intentional and he went beyond to ruin your day and damage your reputation anywas.  Maybe for emotional distress.  but honestly, I have no idea, as I am not a lawyer.

What were you late to?  An interview?  Important pitch meeting?  You are killing me.
