So I recently signed up for uber and had a 4.98 rating. I was told by a friend that the 4.98 was likely due to a few grocery store runs I did so I decided to due a bunch of them in a week to see what would happen. Now mind you I always shower before I leave me house so I i KNOW I do not smell bad. I never eat or drink in uber rides. I never slam their doors. I am always waiting outside when they arrive so they never have to wait. I also almost always have conversations with the drivers that are pleasant and never political or religious. All that being said...
I ran this experiment and started with my 4.98 rating. 2 days into only doing grocery store runs and still doing all the things mentioned above my rating dropped to 4.80. Then I did a few more grocery store runs within the next 2 days and woke up to my rating being 4.69 today. So I guess it is safe to say that Uber drivers do NOT like doing grocery store runs for whatever reason.
Can some of you drivers please enlighten me as to why you do not like picking people up at the grocery store???

Myself personally, I do not like grocery store pick-ups for several reasons - not saying that these have anything to do with you!
#1 Some people expect us to either load, or help load their groceries. When the items or bags are few - it doesn’t matter. But some people fill up the back of my vehicle with many loose or heavy items and if I stand there and watch them, I feel like a heel.
#2 Getting to these people’s houses or apartments, they have to carry items to a location seconds or minutes away and may take forever. All the while my next pick-up is waiting for this person to get their groceries out of my car. And once again, some people expect us to help them into their houses’ vestibules, steps, sidewalks, whatever.
#3 Most, not all people tip us accordingly if we do go the ‘extra mile’, so to speak.
That being said, there are some good, nice people who do everything right with their grocery runs and tip us well. To them, I say a Big THANK YOU! But, t…

As I said earlier, I cannot speak for your drivers, they sound like pricks to me, but I haven’t heard their sides of the story either. You seem like a good person Jaykay, I am sorry if Uber drivers have been mean to you - I do not like to hear that! Good Luck and Have A Great Day!😊

That’s just it. I never asked any of them for help nor expected it. I only had at most 5 bags of groceries, which meant only 2 trips from their trunk. I never brought them into the hall never mind into the building. I always took them not even 5 steps from the car to my stairs and left them on the stairs. I’d say 98% of the trips only required one trip from their trunk to my stairs as I can carry 4 bags at once. Maybe 2 rides required a second trip to their trunk. I always thank them for the ride. Never say anything mean. I have not tipped them but that’s only because they didn’t help and I did t ask for help. So I honestly don’t know why I was rated so low on these trips. Wish I knew why. And honestly I only used Uber for grocery trips cause I like Uber. It would be about $5 cheaper for me to get a taxi and I’d wait less time to be picked up both from my house and the grocery store. The taxi driver would also help with the groceries and not expect …

Maybe I’ll just stick with taxi for groceries and only use ride share apps for long trips, they are much cheap for longer trips

Hi Jaykay, can I ask you why you like(d) Uber? Your taxi drivers seemed to be very nice, helpful and professional! Where I live the taxis cost about 50-100 % MORE and wait times are generally 20-45 minutes more. So, wherever you live, it sounds like you have no need for Uber. Good Luck! PS I just read your reply to me again, I see where you say you never tipped the Uber drivers - maybe that is why your ratings went down. I know that is not rational, I never give anybody less than 5 stars and honestly, many of my riders tip me much later in the day !
Hey, I have noticed this too actually! I used to use Uber for Grocery store runs and while I never paid attention to my ratings, I did notice that the drivers always appeared more quiet/grumpy than usual. I have my own car now so I don't use Uber for this anymore but I did find it strange as I didn't view it any different than loading a bunch of heavy luggage into their trunk.
Is the grocery store you shop at a pain to get to? Is it off a busy intersection with long waits at stop lights or does it have an exceptionally busy parking lot? It might not have anything to do with you but with just the nature of the location.
Also, make sure you are always ready with your groceries on the curb and try not to buy anything smelly :)
No not a pain to get to. It is off of a main street but not to much of a wait at lights or anything. The parking lor can be a bit busy at times but never stop and go kind of traffic, you can always go go go in the parking lot. I never buy anything stinky. Not to sound like some sort of jerk here or anything but why would any of this matter. Is it or is it not the uber drivers job to pick people up and bring them to the location they are going?

Uber drivers have an array of personalities just like everyone else so of course there are some bad eggs out there but generally I think most drivers are pretty accommodating. I wonder if you are just running into jaded Uber drivers. We really don't earn much on this app and while that is not your fault a lot of Uber drivers will take out that frustration on the rider especially when they feel they are going above and beyond their call of duty (pick up rider, drop off rider, nothing else, no froof).
