Why do all the uber cars smell so strongly?

It's either old spice/axe deodorant or some flowery plug-in, and it's awful. I have to open the window and I still end up with an asthma attack every single time. Does Uber tell you to do this? What can I do as a passenger to get a car that doesn't give me an asthma attack?

Unfortunately you get riders that bring food, eat food, smoke cigs, or worse weed, and some passengers smell (food, BO, alcohol, whatever). If the next rider gets in and it smells of any of those things that rider automatically assumes its the driver. That rider then reports us to Uber. If its weed or alcohol we risk getting deactivated. I know it can be overwhelming at times but chances are the driver had a rider that brought some smell into the car. I once had 6 women get in after smoking weed needless to say my car smelled of skunk. I had a rider to pick up immediately after so unfortunately air freshner I sprayed was strong. I apologized and explained and he was ok with it.  Rather have rider rate me low for too much air freshner vs reporting I was smoking weed. I try to spray and open windows to dilute air freshner smell. Sometimes its strong and I agree it sucks for my next rider.  If its that strong most likely driver just sprayed and is probably doing you a favor. Tr…

Trust me some smells that we get in our cars you dont want to smell. Forgot one driver may have had someone vomit in their car. Although you clean it smell takes a few days sometimes to get rid of it.

The drivers are trying to hide and mask something else. It could be the smell of the driver or something from the previous passenger

This is an old stereotype of taxicabs.  That was often to coverup the smell of the drivers who rarely take showers.

I'll give a shot or two of Citrus Magic's "Fresh Orange" once a month or so. I've never been told my car stinks, but I have had many compliments on my clean smelling car. Almost all of my pax' ride with the windows up.

LOL, this made me crack up. I have never had an Uber car smell that strongly. Maybe you have a really sensitive nose? I do know drivers are rated on the smell of their car (ie: no smoke, rotten food, etc) so many do rely on plugins to mask the smell from carrying passengers all day but it shouldn't be that overpowering. I think your best bet is going to be to open the windows whenever you ride. Hopefully you live somewhere with nice weather?
