In less than a month after losing out on a deal with GrubHub, Uber has made a second offer, this time looking to buy Postmates. Postmates, another upstart delivery service, has grown substantially since it was founded 9 years ago and was last valued by investors to be worth $2.4 billion. This deal could really strengthen Uber’s food-delivery business, Uber Eats, which would help to compensate for the lost revenue the company is experiencing from it’s core ride-hailing model due to Covid-19.

read moreDoordash has recently found themselves in the same “sinking” boat as Uber and Lyft after being faced with a lawsuit from the San Francisco district attorney over possibly mis-classifying its workers as contractors rather than employees.
The lawsuit is stemming from multiple accusations that the company failed to provide delivery workers with proper financial protection during the pandemic. District Attorney Boudin, stated that calling employees contractors “deprives them of the labor law safeguards to which they are entitled, denying workers minimum wage and overtime pay, unemployment insurance and protection from discrimination, among other things.”
